A very nasty movie about two nasty young men who terrorize well-to-do folk in their charming summer cottages. Stars Tim Roth, Naomi Watts and Devon Gearhart ( the young son ) as the vacationing victims of psychos Brady Corbet and Michael Pitt. This was originally a controversial Austrian film by director Michael Haneke. He was persuaded to bring his film to America. He did, filming it almost word for word, scene for scene, only this time in English with well known actors ( Roth and Watts ). To reveal how things proceed during this film would ruin it for anyone who wants to see it, so I'll just say it is very artistic, and very disturbing. Thankfully, most ( but not all ) of the violence is unseen as the camera is focussed on something other than the victim of the violence. But there is suspense. Oh, yes, and at times I found the suspense excruciating.
It's not a film for family viewing and may not be a film for everyone. But if you like your film-fare off the Hollywood beaten track, along with some excellent acting, you will probably like this one. But remember. It's distrubing and like me, it may stick with you for awhile.
A one time rental for me, but a worthy one for sure. :T
