    Flipped a nice little film

Rob Reiner wrote and directed this film ( based on a novel by Wendelin Van Draanen ). It is a somewhat sentimental coming of age film starring Callan McAuliffe and Madeline Carroll as the teenagers who come together as pre-teens, fall apart as teens and come together again. Supporting cast includes Anthony Edwards as Callan's nasty dad, Rebecca De Mornay as his mom and John Mahoney as his granpa. Aidan Quinn and Penelope Ann Miller portray Madeline's challenged parents. It's not perfect ( for one thing the switching POV's forces you to watch several scenes over again with different voice over) but overall it is a nice little film that probably didn't get much of an audience. If you like family fare, you may want to give this a rental. But, be forwarned, this is no Stand By Me Rob Reiner.

The Ice Harvest is film noir
    by George Bellefontaine
I really love those great b&w film noir movies from the 40s and early 50s and The Ice Harvest fits right into that category, only it is film noir in color. It stars John Cusack as a seedy lawyer ( he represents the mob, among other things) and Billy Bob Thornton as a lowlife who teams up with Cusack...

How much should a student first time film cost?
    by oldbob
In answer to my own question, I would say between $10,000 and $40,000 dollars. It used to be more but digital has drastically lowered the cost while at the same time making it much easier to produce a professional look.

However, this isn’t a story about reasonable. This is the true...

    Student Film part three

Now we all have learned that at the beginning of each day you are given your pages of the days work. For me that means I can figure out how I am going to utilize my crew and plan my day. The more I can get ahead of the company with pre-lighting the more time I can save production. And in film time is...

    Parasound gear and film makers

Latest press release from Parasound. I have a personal connection to this one, as I grew up in Colorado, and played sports with Columbine High School. The Columbine massacre really touched me, as I would imagine it did to all of us. I think I'm going to send a message the way of Andrew Robinson,...
