    Deja Vu

    Well......
This movie kinda threw me a curve. I'd like to recommend it, but it really has some moments that demand that you put your brain on pause and try not to think to much if you want to enjoy it. And I did WANT to enjoy it. But they made it REEEALLLY hard to do that during certain parts.

First off, I went into this movie blind. I had no idea what it was about. It started out like your usual crime/thriller with Denzel Washington playing an ATF Federal agent investigating an apparent terrorist bombing down in New Orleans. As he investigates the scene and the case develops, everything seems to be going along ok and then Val Kilmer enters the investigation as an FBI agent. That's when the movie takes a hard left turn and you really have to hang onto your hat. Kinda caught me off guard. Maybe if I had known what was coming I could've been more prepared.....

Things get a bit implausible regarding some new FBI technology that involves satellite photography being able to see through walls and past/present time travel etc.. Some of it was really difficult to swallow and I couldn't help rolling my eyes more than a few times as the characters tried to "explain" there new inventions.

If you can get past all that (and I'm not sure that I did) you could probably enjoy this movie. I guess.

Denzel does his usual outstanding and reliable job. He's a consistant .300 plus hitter and he tries everything he can to make the viewer buy into this far-fetched story and at times he comes close.

Kilmer's role is pretty insignificant and I couldn't help wondering what he was doing in this movie. He does an ok job but has better skills than this part needed. It did look like he's been hitting the Rocky Road ice cream a little hard.

Frankly, I expected a little more out of this assembly of talent including Tony Scott directing and Jerry Bruckheimer producing.

Go ahead and check it out, but like I said-----leave your reason and logic in the top drawer. 8O

Yeah this film has been discussed before. It's far out, for sure, but a likeable flick and one that I have watched more than once. I'd rate it more in the B range.

Sorry George! I actually thought this was a more recent release. Man, am I out of the loop! That's what having two small children will do to you. My wife and I just recently joined Netflix and have just started catching up on all the movies we've been missing for the last few years. Put the kids to bed and keep the surround sound down low!

When I grade a movie I use the following criteria:

A= Top of the line blockbuster, epic, academy award winner type movie. A classic. (example-"The Godfather" or "Gladiator")

B= Well constructed and acted movie. All around entertaining and enjoyable. Completely satisfying. Just a hair below the above criteria. (example- "Man on Fire". Another Denzel Washington/Tony Scott project ala Deja Vu)

C= Good movie, well worth viewing, but has some obvious flaws that are hard to ignore. (example- Deja VU)

D= Poor movie. Forgettable. Difficult to sit through. (example- I've forgotten them all and don't want to try and remember them)

F= Unwatchable. Turn it off after the first 15 or 20 minutes.

Maybe that helps with why I graded this movie a C+. It doesn't mean that I didn't like it. Overall it was entertaining, but there were too many scenes that had me shaking my head in disbelief. I was kind and avoided words like "ridiculous" and "silly".

Perhaps if I had realized that it was more of a science fiction movie I would have been more open-minded towards it.

By the way, if anyone has some recommendations for good movies over the last couple of years that I've missed out on please let me know.....Netflix is waiting!

Arrrrrgh... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: This is a decent movie, that centers on a major event of a plane crash, but is really all about the lead character played by Denzel Washington and the massive demons he carries of addictions. No spoiler there--Robert Zimeckis puts that blatantly right...

I enjoyed this movie and thought it was entertaining. It had kind of an "Inception" like feel about it to me at times although certainly not as polished or stylishly done. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. At 1 hour and 34 minutes it wasn't nearly as long as Inception either (2hrs....

Dredging up a bit of an oldie. I was at the local warehouse store and they had a 3 DVD set of Denzel Washington movies, Man On Fire, The Siege and Courage Under Fire for $8.99. I have had a passing interest in Man On Fire for some time so I decided to buy. I would not consider myself a big Denzel Washington...
