    Redacted

I expected to see an Iraq war drama, but instead I saw a confusing pile of crap. Brian DePalma wanted to make a strong anti-war statement, and he did with this film, but I'm sure many will not see it after word got out of just how poorly contructed it was. It's one of those camera eye point-of-view flicks, shown from different sources.

Basically it concerns a few soldiers at a checkpoint center in Iraq. After their sergant is blown up they take out their spite on an Iraq family, raping a 15 year old girl, and killing everyone. Had it been handled differently, I'm sure this would have made a strong drama. But DePalma just blew it.

Seems to resemble the tone of his Casualties of War with Sean Penn and (not a typo) Michael J. Fox.

At least with that one, he used conventional film-story-telling techniques.

Would you describe Redacted as having the kind of frenetic multiple points of view as seen in Vantage Point or was it more like the kind of jumbled camerawork of something like Cloverfield?

The story is told by a camera. In one case it's one of the soldiers who walks around filming things. In other cases it's a security camera, or a news person's camera. Some of the idle chatter does nothing to further the storyline. Just damn annoying and sometimes boring.

Ah, too bad it's not well done. I try to view movies of opposing viewpoints sometimes.

Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.

Defiance is based on the true WW2 story of two Jewish brothers ( Tuvia and Zus Bielski ) who escape, along with 1000 non-combatant Jews of various ages and genders, into the Belarussian forest where they try to survive against all odds during the German occupation of Eastern Europe. The brothers end...

A truthful look at things in Iraq
              by George Bellefontaine
I rented GUNNER PALACE over the weekend. It's a 90 minute documentary showing the day to day lives of US soldiers of the 2/3 Field Artillery in Baghdad. It covers a period between 2003 and 2004 when the war is supposed to be over, according to President Bush. Try to tell that to these brave young men...

              Hey all,

Justified- This series is a bit too trailer trash/ Hillbilly/ Roadhouse for me. This thing could easily be an old time western kinda' show. I can see these people on...

Passchendaele not your odinary war film
              by George Bellefontaine
This is a Canadian made World War One film starring Paul Gross, a well known and respected Canadian actor who also wrote and directed Passchendaele. Gross was intrigued by a story told to him by his grandfather, Michael Dunne, about how he bayoneted a young German to death and how it haunted him until...
