This powerful drama was written and directed by Paul Haggis and has a lot of the realism we saw in Crash. Valley stars Tommy Lee Jones as the ex-military father of a soldier son who has gone missing from the base after his return from Iraq. Susan Saradon plays the anguished wife and Charlize Theron is a local detective who gets involved in the search for Jones' missing son. Any of the performances here would get a nod from me for an Oscar, but that obviously didn't happen. But this has Paul Haggis written all over it, and in the final scene you will see a subtle ( not to mention original in the way it's presented ) anti-war statement that's bound to stir up the emotions of even the toughest viewer.
