    The departed

Saw it, its got an interesting storyline, but the pace of the movie is a real dampner in the begining.

Its about two cops, one undercover in the mob and the other one undercover in the police dept and how they try to find out each others identity working for opposite sides with a twist in the end. I felt sad the way it ended.

Picture Quality is good, but there's nothing in the story to call for good surround effects, but otherwise the sound is decent too.

      Infernal Affairs!!!

You must rent the original, Infernal Affairs. Get the subtitled version, not the dubbed.

It was ok. I love Scorsese, but being from Massachusetts I was a bit turned off by the "Lobsta Chowda" accents. Mark and Matt both sounded fine (because they are from the area I believe), but the others were a "bit off" at times, especially Titanic Boy.

Definetly not on par with Goodfellas or Casino, but I don't regret renting it. It's a one time viewing for me though.

I watched this one tonight. A little long, but a good movie. The ending was a little unexpected. But in a good way.

My wife brought this home from the vidio store and we watched it tonight. Unforntunatly, she got the reformatted version!?!?
I thought Jack was showing off a little, but his one-liners had me ROTF, and what-the-hey, he deserves the right to have some fun. We both loved it.
I give it a solid 4 stars. I will buy it when it comes up in the previously viewed rack, in the anamorphic version; I felt like I missed 1/3 of the movie.
Oh, and I like the ending.

And yes June, it's hard to better a classic.

I bought it and loved it. Despite what some others have said at the various sites, I really felt that this film deserved Best Picture Oscar and of course, Martie deserved best director. There was some powerful acting here and IMHO, Nicholson should have been nominated for best actor for this role.
I didn't see Infernal Affairs so I can only go on what I saw in The Departed and it was one heckuva story. What really got me was how the violence was handled. When it came, it came from nowhere and slammed you between the eyes.

Sorry to disagree with you, Nicholas, but I felt The Departed was right up there with Goodfellas and Casino. In fact, I got a few chuckles when I read that Martin Scorcese said that this was the first film he has directed with a plot.

                I agree with you, George.
After reflecting on the movie after a week or so, I raise my score to 4.5 stars.

OT, but I was glad for Martin, and liked his speech at the Oscars. In a later interview I heard, he said on reflection, he was glad he did not win earlier, as it may have had a negative influence on his ability to direct afterward.

And I was very sad to not see Peter O'Toole win. His life-work should be honored while he is still with us.

We rented and watched it last night. The movie was OK. The last couple twists were unexpected. I was a little disappointed with the audio track. My sub very seldomly snapped into action. It seemed like most of the gun shots were anemic.

Just watched it this weekend. The movie was better than expected, the cast was truly creme de la creme and the theme slightly changed from the original. But I don't see why he got the oscar for it?! The original was truly much better in many ways: the black and white arty type of shots and felling throughout the whole movie & the scene where both main characters meet up on the roof; Scorsese did a very poor job here. If I remember it correctly the last scene wasn't supposed to be whack job, but a suicide...

I understand that people who haven't seen the original find this movie good though....

I didn't see the original so you are probably correct. But I found it much better than good.

Picked up the HD version the other day. Great movie. Jack may have been a little over the top but overall a great movie. I really liked Mark W's character if only I could talk to the people I work with like that. Anyway these next gen formats are awesome to say the least. I wish the format war would end as I am getting large stacks of both Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies.

It was a nailbiter, not knowing which way it would turn next. I'm not sure I'd have bought it if I'd seen it first, but I have it now, and I guess that's that. (high def)

It's a good movie, but not sure how often I'll watch it. Probably no more than Casino, which will be rather infrequent. But, Casino was free, so if I average those 2 movies cost, not bad for both...

I've watched Casino about 8 times now and Goodfellas 11 times. There's just something about watching a master at work.

I also got a big kick out of that Freud quote...had never heard it before. As an Irishman, it gave me a feeling of vindication.

My wife and I finaly got around to seeing this movie. The fact that my wife actually stayed awake for the whole movie was a major accomplishment in and of itself. We both really enjoyed the movie and got into the characters. It's funny everyone talking about Jack being over the top, at one point in the movie my wife looked at me and said he is probably adlibbing a lot don't you think, I just shrugged.

I have never seen the original and I wanted to see this movie back when it was in the theater based soely on the quality of people involved and I was not dissapointed at all. If I had any gripes it would be that it was a tad long and maybe a little slow, but I was fine with both of those issues because I wouldnt have wanted to miss anything.

                                      I gave it 4.5 of 5 stars. :T

My girlfriend hated it, said it was ruined when he got shot point blank coming out of the lift. Didn't make sense for such a cautious character that he had been all the way through.
                                        She has a point.

I thought it rushed it at the end, just killin every one like a paint ball game.

I have been waiting for someone to comment on the sound system that was shown towards the end of the film in Matt Damon’s apartment. Did anybody else pick up on it?
