Two Pleasant Diversions From Action Horror Flicks...

    IN GOOD COMPANY

Stars Dennis Quaid as an 50ish ad exec who heads up the ad sales team at a sports magazine. However things gets messy when there is a corporate takeover and a young ( half Quaid's age) exec ( Tophur Grace ) enters the scene and becomes Quaid's boss. Quaid's daughter, played by Scarlet Johannsen, becomes romantically involved with Grace and, well you can see trouble coming. It's sort of a comedy/drama that sees both Quaid's and Grace's characters go through a come-to-realize sort of resolution. There is also a cute twist that is not all that unfamiliar to anyone ( like myself) who has spent time at the top of the corporate ladder. God acting by all and nice to see Marg Helgenburger ( CSI) in films again. Tophur Grace is also showing that he can probably make it in the transition from tv to big screen.

    THE LAST SHOT

Another comedy/drama starring Alec Baldwin and Matthew Broderick. Baldwin is an FBI agent working undercover. He pretends to be a film producer to help nail a few mafia bigshots and their connection to the Teamsters and bribery. Broderick is a wannabe film director. With Baldwin he gets his big break, but doesn't realize it is all a ruse to trap gangsters. Baldwin gets caught up in the hype of film producing and begins to forget his true identity.
Nothing fantastic here, just a nice quiet little flick that will make you laugh a few times. And for me, well I like most anything Alec Baldwin does.

Both movies run a little over 90 minutes. They won't tax your brain or put your audio system to the test, but they make a pleasant diversion from the usual Action/Horror stuff of late.

In Good Company was done by the same people who did "About A Boy" which is a delightful comedy if you haven't seen it.

While working on the computer yesterday, I had the TV on in the background and the show was on the all-time scariest movies.

So, I was thinking, I like to be frightened. But, what to get. Ah, the good folk at HTG might have some interesting ideas.

This stars Julianne Moore in a true story based on the real life murder of socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland, a woman who married above her social class and gave birth to a son ( who was seen as a failure in his father's eyes ),thus sowing the seeds for a future tradgedy.

      THE PACIFIER a pleasant surprise

I just rented this on a whim, not expecting much, especially after watching Tommy Lee Jones makes a fool of himself in Man Of The House , but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Vin Diesel plays a Navy Seal assigned to protect the family of an assinated scientist. The story line...
