    Dead Poet's Society

Just bought this one super cheap during a DVD sale, ended up being like $5 or something. Watching it tonight.

Avoid the original DVD release, which is non-anamorphic. 2nd release is a "special edition".

This has always been one of my favorite films, and I think one of the top 3 films about education ever made. I enjoy teaching in various forms, and the movie inspires me every time I see it.

Not going to do a full review here, but I'll let my ratings speak for themself, if for some reason you've never seen the film. :5: out of :5:

I attended a New England private school (not a boarding school, though) and I taught high school for many years (I teach at a community college now) and I love this film. 5/5

I myself think that Dead Poet's Society is the second worst movie about education ever made - the absolute worst being Mr Holland's Opus. I totally despise these movies.

Really? I love Mr. Holland's Opus, not about the teaching, but the music and a lot of the story. The musical introduction to MHO is nice and gentle, and then as the orchestra comes in, I was MESMERIZED.

Are there any teaching movies you do like? Stand and Deliver? Dangerous Minds?

Three recent films that achievied 5 star status to this viewer
            by Danbry39
I know I have quirky tastes, but here are short reviews of three films, each of which I bought blind, that I absolutely love. All three are foreign films, so, if you're into that kind of thing, you might give them a try...at least if you can find them for rental. Really don't know if anyone else would...

            Favourite classic films?
            by Ovation
I've been on a bit of a classic film run lately (mostly early Hitchcock, but a few others) and while I have a reasonable number of such films on my shelf, I'm curious to know if there are any I should at least rent, if not add to my collection.

Basically, what are your favourite classic...

So what has happened to the "society of sound" on the B&W site. They have been saying early 2007 - surely thats long gone.

Does anyone know what it will be about? Will it be Peter Gabriel waffling about how he likes his whatever B&Ws (not that he uses them in his Real...
