    The Devil Wears Prada

OK, So the wife and I Pick up a couple of movies Friday. I get Talladaga Nights and she wanted to watch The Devil wears Prada.
We watched Talladega nights Friday. Although it had it's over-the-top dumb moments, I liked it. Tonite I was forced to watch her selection. Well, I was treated to a pretty good movie. SQ and PQ were both good. I'm not good with writing "reviews" of movies, so I'll just leave it at that. Good movie to watch with the wifey.

I agree, this is an excellent date movie, much better than I expected. Gentlemen, if you want action, but the wife wants something else, you should try this one, it is both intelligent and witty. Meryl Streep's performance is perhaps oscar worthy. That's all.

    Peace and blessings,

Any fan of Meryl Streep will probably already have this one in their Netflix queue. However, Anne Hathaway holds her own pretty well even with that rarified company onscreen. Anne might have another shot at a Supporting Actress nomination with this role. Although her character drives the narrative, and she probably does wear Prada (whatever that is) at some point, she's not the title character. It's Meryl's show. And a pretty good one for its type.

No fast car chases or explosions (for that, check out "Talladega Nights", the other movie in this week end's double feature) but "The Devil Wears Prada" was surprisingly entertaining for someone who frankly couldn't care less about just about everything the main characters in the movie do, or seem to be interested in, career-wise. (I wouldn't mind a business trip to Paris, but it would have to be for the business I'm in, not the one depicted in the movie.)

Even if the witty dialog doesn't do it for you, the outdoor scenes in New York and Paris are well photographed. And the high end auto manufacturers must have paid a small fortune for product placement in this one. Also, Anne Hathaway has a way of looking and sounding very real (beyond "acting") in every scene. (She's giving Liv Tyler a run for her money in that regard.) So there's a lot to enjoy even if catty fashion industry mavens aren't on your list of people you want to know more about. :>)

Prada, SpA is an Italian fashion company (also known as a "label" or "house") with retail outlets worldwide.
The company, originaly known in Italian as Fratelli Prada ("Prada Brothers"), was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada. In 1978, Mario's granddaughter Miuccia Prada inherited what was still a leather goods business from her mother, and led the company's expansion into couture.

Watched this one this weekend and was not too thrilled with it, I now feel like I need to go wrestle a bear or alligator to re-gain my manhood.

Yep, the wife and daughter have watched it 3 times at my house. They're taking away my big screen minutes. But Meryl was very good in the role.

That’s understandable since the movie only showed women getting the fancy duds. The alligator will render a snappy pair of platform boots and the bear skin should make into a stylish opera cape. Of course, to do that, you'll be bravely facing down PETA. But what the heck, it's probably worth it. Your new "look" should be good for the entire season. :>) Next double feature how about "Any Given Sunday" and "Open Range"?

Rented and watched it last night, VERY good movie! I'll give it :4: out of :5:

Enjoyed the movie, and kept thinking about how maddenly difficult but excitingly challenging it would be to be an assistant in those situations. Meryl Streep was very good, Anne Hathaway is very pretty, and a decent storyline too.

Couldn't find it on BD to rent, so just rented it in standard def.

Saw it a couple of days ago. Meryl is such a great actress. Honestly, I couldn't think of another actress for that role. She owns it.

Also, I'm the least fashion-wise person in the world...except for hair brushes. I smiled when Mason Pearson got mentioned. Absolutely great brushes, but expensive.

Cheesy and predictable, a truly torturous experience for both me and my wife.

Watched this DVD last night, and have to say I enjoyed it , especially since like most folks, I can relate to the selling-my-soul-to-the-job message.

My only real criticism is of the sterotypical boyfriend character. Why is it that in Hollywood movies these guys are so perfect, so understanding, cool, tolerant, good looking, patient, can cook, casually shrug off their girlfriends selfishness, etc, etc?

Yeah, Ms. Streep is a top notch actress. I find her really irritating in many of her "acclaimed" roles, and yet still enjoy her performances so throroughly in other films like this one, Postcards from the Edge, Defending Your Life and the like in spite of those that I have to put at the top of her field.
