Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

    Rented it.

The filming style was definetly original, along with all the 40's/50's sci-fi stuff. I liked Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, but Angelina didn't quite fit the part in my opinion. Another one of those films where I absolutely loved some scenes, but thought others could have been cut or shortened. Overall it suprised me, as I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. Definetly worth renting, but not one that I plan to buy.

Good inputs, Nicholas; will probalby nudge me towards doing the same. I was kind of interested anyway, due to the kind of campy approach...

I'll jump in on this as I watched it on my big screen Friday.

Great disk. The movie will range on your scale somewhere from neat looking but yawn to wow! really cool! depending on your age and other things. But just evaluating what they did with the transfer and audio mix itself, this thing is tops. Nice low end, no real evidence of any compression artifacting (the soft look of the movie probably helps mask any of this that is present, but there isn't much). Hard to tell if I'd put it the reference category as I did not see it theatrically.

Certainly worth a purchase just for its novelty (look and style), but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Kid liked it too.

Like other movies, I think it had a lot of potential. I really wanted to like it, with the film noir feel to it. Not the best, but it sure could have been a lot worse. I'll give up props for the whole blue-screen no set stage thing too.

Well, picked it up at CostCo cheap, but until I have the projector running again (speaker testing, you know!), will hold off on viewing...

I enjoyed it, there were 5 of us ranging from 7 to 36 and only two of us liked it. Me and my brother in law were the only two that liked it, both my boys and my wife (who fell asleep) didnt like it.

I was surprised my boys didnt like it as I figured a sci fi featuring robots and stuff would grab their imagination, but whether it was the old school look and feel or the old school story line they simply didnt connect.

I enjoyed the film, 3 stars out of 5.

Next, a family viewing, hmmmmm, hopefully they won't fall asleep like Foxman's. Since it is an old school theme, maybe I'll have some splaining to do.

                    Regards,

                    Azeke

Wife hasn't watched yet. My kid (7) loves Godzilla movies and other old looking stuff too.

But like I said in another thread, he did like Thunderbirds better when we watched it the next night. That COULD have been just because of Lady Penelope though. Especially the freezer scene.

Watched this last night, like Chris D, I really wanted to like this one. I'm not really sure why it didn't work for me, but after an hour I just lost interest.

                          George,
The uninteresting characters and lack of chemistry plays a large role in that. That and after a while the whole look and feel just wears off.

Kind of a whole meh effort.

I would give it better than a meh myself, but certainly far short of woohoo.

Probably watch it again this weekend with out of town family and see what they think.

Well, the sister-in-law and her boyfriend slept through the middle of it, then stayed up and chatted for an hour afterwards, so either their little nap REALLY refreshed them, or chalk two more entries into the found-it-numbingly-boring column (they were tired from a 9 drive from AZ the night before though).

I myself enjoyed it a bit more the second time around. So ink me into the not-at-all-sorry-I-bought-it column.
