Home Theater magazine commented that this DVD has top notch SQ and PQ although the movie itself isn't very good. I personally liked it at the movie theater and have been looking forward to buying it. For $14.99, it would be a no brainer for me. Let me know what you guys think about this DVD.

Like Tex Meek's review says, forget the Asimov book and take the film for what it is. I plan to pick it up this week.- Bottom

Yeah, I was ready to despise it being an Asimov reader, but instead found it somewhere between thoroughly OK and mildly good (on a 3-1/2" airplane screen - feh!).
Waiting to buy until the SE 2 disc a bit down the road (which region 2 got first for SOME reason).

I ponyed up yesterday for it because I was impatient and this one had a DTS track so I figured the main benefit to the SE would be extras that I probably wouldnt watch.
Havent watched anything I bought yesterday and might not until after Christmas as we have so much to watch or do already and no time.- Bottom

As far as DTS goes I just looked on the back of the cover and it said DTS, so I assumed I was getting it with DTS.- Bottom

:T to 20th Century Fox... they have been releasing a lot of new titles with DTS lately. Just hope it becomes standard practice.- Bottom

Yeah, even though they are half-bit-rate DTS it's still good. Unfortunately, full-bit-rate DTS hasn't been seen in a new release in a couple of years, at least..

As far as I know all region 1 DVDs of I, ROBOT has English DTS 5.1 along with Dolby Digital 5.1.
From what I can see, both PQ and SQ of this DVD is spectacular. I really enjoyed it both at the movies and at home, but even if you don't like the movie, this DVD would make a pretty good HT Demo disc.Victory Shall Be Mine!!! :heh:- Bottom

Enjoyed this movie for what it's worth, PQ and SQ were excellent, and the DTS track, also very good.
Just remember, this is just a movie, with a good premise and excellent CGI. If you are a Sci-Fi kind of guy (or lady) this movie is for you. Your mileage may vary.

Lackluster movie, I thought. Beside some signature Will Smith wisecracking, I felt he was saddled with some of the most cliche and wooden lines of the year. I submit evidence A:
"Humans have feelings. Robots don't."
Woah! Really?!
I also felt the doctor's hunch that Smith's natural prejudice and suspicion of robots would lead him to solve the mystery was juuuuuust a bit of a stretch.
The action was good, and the CG was very good. But for keeping me involved with a story, I'll put my $$$ on something like Minority Report.- Bottom

I understand your feelings. The relation to Asimov's stories was thin, apart from the 3 laws. Cinematography and CGI was pretty good. Definitely created as a vehicle for Will... still, I found the story somewhat interesting in because of the whole breadcrumbs thing, and the way that tale was woven. Maybe if it wasn't such a Will Smith vehicle, the story could have been a little more plausibly developed.the AudioWorx

Rented this one...
Will Smith wasnt as obnoxious as he normally is. I hadn't read the books either, so I didn't have any expectations going in. Some scenes were cool, some were boring and terrible. I thought the movie got off to a great start, and then started to drag. Definetly a regular-ole hollywood movie looking to make money on action figures. Worth a see though.
I'm not going to bother buying this one.

It's on the shelf in Cinemeek, been there since Christmas week. If you can separate the movie from the book, it's a worthwhile effort. If you can't, don't bother..

I thought it was pretty good... just rented it from BB. Not a purchase movie for me, though.
And yes, I've been a long-time reader of Asimov, so I put aside those expectations.CHRIS
Well, we're safe for now. Thank goodness we're in a bowling alley.
