    Shrek 2

Just picked up my copy today to watch tonight with the wife. I'll report back on PQ/SQ later tonight.

If the PQ and SQ are anything like Shrek One, then Two will be right up there.

Just got finished watching or should I say laughing for the last 107min to a movie that does what most sequels can not. Be better than the first. The PQ is top notch, up there with the likes of Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo and Shrek. Audio though not as intense as say SPL, will keep your speakers happy with the ever changing score. This is a definite must have for anyones collection. :T :T

I hear the puss 'n boots character is hilarious and steals the laughs from the donkey character.

The following comments are based on having seen Shrek 2 in a cmmercial theater, not the DVD (yet):

Yes, indeed. Antonio Banderas has a lot of fun with this character -- as does the audience.

To the point when Puss In Boots invites himself along to accompany Shrek on a daring mission, the donkey yells: "The role of annoying talking animal is already taken". {Puss in Boots comes along anyway.) Actually, even though Puss In Boots manages to steal several scenes, the donkey is still quite funny. Both characters get enough laughs to earn their keep. :>)

Friday is going to be Shrek 2 day for sure.

My only complaint is that cover....why do they put such silly (I was going to say stupid...but it seemed too harsh....okay... stupid) banners on there:

"#1 comedy of all time" As voted by whom? I'm sure it's funny and all, but do they really think messing up a cover like that will really influence sales.

Sorry it's just a pet peeve. I really really hate seeing quotes on covers (as if it'll swing my decision) "Joel Siegel says it's great...okay I'll buy/rent"

It's such nice artwork why clutter it up?

I'll probably be buying site unseen. I have the first and it was a winner, so the second should hit most marks for me. The kids really like Shrek and that last DVD package was Gold! We got a TON of mileage out of it.
Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I watched it tonight and although I already saw it in the theater it was as funny as the first time. Although Puss 'n Boots is funny I really loved Donkey even more.

PQ and SQ are on par.

It is marketed as the # 1 comedy of all time because it is actually the highest grossing comedy of all time ($441 million in North America and $881 million world wide). Still, I agree, save that kind of banner for in store posters and leave the dvd artwork alone.

Its not on the case. It just a pic I got off amazon. On the bottom you'll only see the word "widescreen" in the bottom left. I've attached a thumbnail.

I ordered Shrek2 (never seen it before) and MST3K collection vol 1, should get it tomorrow. I can't believe I paid nearly $50 for MST3K, I had better have milk squirting out my nose watching these or it will be the worst purchase I've made to date.

DAMN the bastards who designed this DVD!

I hate, hate, HATE, HATE "required" ads for "coming attractions" (or any other "required" viewing) where the menu button is disabled, and only "fast forward" is allowed. The "Lost In Translation" DVD was marred that way and now "Shrek 2". Love the movies; hate the DVD intro "feature". It is about enough incentive to figure out how to rip this to DVD+RW WITHOUT this unwelcome "extra".

Once you get past that annoyance, the picture is gorgeous and the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound is sensational. Of course, I already knew I really like the movie from having seen it openiing day during its commercial theatrical run. If you appreciate top rate animation, funny dialog, interesting characters and clever, fun-to-watch satire, you will too.

did anyone else notice that the ending is changed on the DVD release then what we saw in the theater? More specifically the arrival of the dragon with her babies?

You must have walked out too early at the commercial theater. Either that, or they distributed a different cut of the film in Canada. I went opening day, and that ending was part of the movie. (I almost always stay through the credits because you never know what the film maker might reward us with for sticking around, even if its just cool music. In this case, it was a surprise for us and for Donkey, who didn't know until then he was a daddy.) :>) I clearly remember, and was looking forward to again when I watched the DVD, Donkey's closing line "I gotta get a job" -- I laughed out loud.

Okay, I haven't been too contrarian lately so I guess it's time.

I finally watched Shrek II last night at the urging of my wife and daughter. Yes, I laughed in several spots and roared in a couple - mainly when Donkey and Puss were concerned - but for some reason I really didn't connect with this movie. The whole "Shrek The Musical" ending didn't work for me at all. The visual aspects were amazingly well done with a couple of shots almost being photo-real, and the audio was first rate also. Unfortunately, the overall story was so disinteresting to me that I finally got to the point that I was fast-forwarding (after the resolution) to get to the credits. I'm glad that so many people have enjoyed Shrek II, but don't count me as a big fan.
                                        .

                                          G'day,

I got Shrek 2 on the weekend for my two-year-old daughter, who loves to watch the original Shrek. We didn't get to see Shrek 2 at the cinema, so this was the first time I had seen it.

The PQ and SQ are superb, and the animation of humans has improved considerably. I quite enjoyed this movie (luckily, since my daughter will want to watch it repeatedly), however I thought the story was not as engaging as the original Shrek, which I never tire of viewing.

I did enjoy the myriad movie references (LOTR, Spiderman, Alien, Garfield, Blazing Saddles, ET, Zorro, Spinal Tap, etc) and sly in-jokes (the poster of "Sir Justin" above Princess Fiona's bed).

Then there's the "Far Far Away Idol" at the end -- funny enough, but I've got no idea who that "Simon" character is. A judge on "American Idol", perhaps? Whatever, it doesn't translate well across the Pacific.

                                          --Geoff
