    Finding Nemo?

I thought I'd ask peoples' opinions before I go out and see this movie. Is it another Pixar winner? Or is Pixar getting predictable like Disney?

I haven't seen it yet, either, but a friend who is really "into" movies (by that I mean he and his wife go to several a month at the commercial theaters -- they do not even own a DVD player, AKAIK, but they are helping keep the foreign film/art film movie houses in business here) has strongly recommended it. According to him, the story is engaging, the colors are vibrant and the sound is quite impressive. (Guess which theater I plan to go to when I see it.) :>)

Chris, I haven't seen it yet either. A friend at work to the family to see it this weekend, and said it was excellent. A good movie for adults as well as kids.

        As always YMMV.

Burke, would that be Cine' Strickland? :B

I did see this movie yesterday. It sure was a lot of fun. Now you need to understand under what circumstances I saw this movie. Over 80% of the theater was occupied by little, talking, crying, whinning children! I took my boys to see it. Ages 8 and 6. This was a great movie. There were several scenes that the adults were laughing and no children were. It really played to both audiences. I would highly recommend this movie. It was a lot of fun.

            Another Pixar home run!

Just got back from seeing it. It is absolutely great with amazing visuals. Ellen DeGeneres is fantastic, but really everyone is cool, especially the turtles. :5:

It was a really fun film for me. Another hit for Pixar! Funny and fun.
I liked it better than Monsters Inc.

I'll definitely be buying Finding Nemo when it comes out on DVD.

In case you haven't had a chance to see "Finding Nemo" yet, this is one you need to see at a commercial theater first unless you have a really big projection screen at home. A major part of its impact is the rich play of colors covering your entire field of view. That simply can't have the same effect on a small screen. This was even more apparent since they didn't turn the house lights off until 10 minutes into the feature, so the colors really sprang from the screen after being washed out at the beginning.

I finally saw this one yesterday. I was lucky. Even though at least 75% of the audience was kids (I think I was the only male in the audience over the age of five) :>) once the movie started, they were all very well behaved. Not a peep out of any of them, and no annoying yelling at kids from their mothers either.

Aside: A lot of times, I think parents are OVERLY concerned with their kids' behavior and yell at them for fidgeting in their seat, for instance, when it is the parents' yelling and NOT the kids' fidgeting that disturbs other patrons -- unless the kid is kicking the seat in front of them, and I have never once heard a parent tell a kid to stop doing that. There has to be a balance, since unsupervised little terrors shouting while running around uncontrolled is no fun either.

Back to "Finding Nemo": As well done and enjoyable as the movie is, I'm not sure it is one I particularly want to watch over and over again. It is almost too "cute" and even the potentially dangerous situations are milked for laughs -- if only life were so story book innocent. With cartoons, I really prefer something with a bit more "bite" and/or adult sensibilities (such as "Shrek", or "Spirited Away" -- both of which have happy endings but are not nearly so cloyingly "sweet" along the way).

Also, although I enjoy Ellen Degeneres as a stand up comedian, her fish character was "Ellen Degeneres as a fish" -- it even sort of looked like her -- instead of "a memorable character who helps the story along" without a star turn by a recognizable celebrity even though voiced by one. (There were other recognizable voices on the sound track, but they didn't overwhelm their characters.) OTOH, I did appreciate the way they had something fun going on all the way through the closing credits (and not silly "blooper outtakes" -- how can a cartoon have those).

So I'd recommend you go catch it while it is still playing in the commercial theaters and then decide for yourself whether it is worth a DVD purchase. Of course if you have young kids, the decision will already be made by them. (Preorder now.) :>)

That's part of why they were funny.
