If you liked Man of Steel (I did), you'll probably like this one. Its reach exceeds its grasp (attempts at critiquing the damage wrought in Man of Steel are worthwhile, if somewhat incomplete). I enjoyed the performances more than the story (something that often happens for me with these kinds of films). If you did not like Man of Steel, though, I wouldn't bother--you're likely to be disappointed.

I gave a "meh" to Man of Steel. Wasn't bad, (i.e. Fantastic Four) but just wasn't high quality like some other superhero flicks. I've heard some really bad things about this film, and it's getting a sorry 29% on the Tomatometer. I'll see it when it comes to BluRay. If nothing else, for my high school schoolmate Amy Adams. I haven't been very hopeful about this movie, in large part because of Affleck.

Affleck does a fine job. Even those who otherwise have little good to say about the film appreciate his performance. My biggest issue, as I've thought about it, lies mostly in an overly cramped story--easily enough material for two films here and it's clear the rush to "catch up with Marvel" is driving some of the excess cramming of story elements.
The theme of "alien invasion/contact" and how such a thing, if it really occurred, would completely challenge how we view ourselves are A) an intriguing way of imagining Superman in the present (instead of his origins nearly 80 years ago) and B) something worthy of further exploration. Unfortunately, they are only modestly explored in Man of Steel and the new movie. Still, I prefer a flawed take on such themes than a re-hash of "the perfect hero" everyone seems inclined to expect of Superman.Comment

FWIW, I watched "Ant Man" today. average at best, for a modern superhero movie, but still fun, with a little different comedy feel to it that suits Paul Rudd. Sounds like they're going to fit it into the Avenger series. CHRIS

Finally saw the movie. I have to agree with Ovation, so much story crammed into one movie. To me it seemed more a movie about Batman than Superman. And during the final climatic fight scene, I was yelling why don't you just say I gotta save my Mom? Well cause that would have cut out 10 minutes of fight scenes. I'm sorry if I'm spoiling anything, but I do expect some good story plots. Or maybe I watch too much of those 'Everything wrong with ...." videos.
The real saving grace was Wonder Woman. You can pretty much figure this out as you watch the movie.
I feel they just need to tell A story and stick with it and not introduce too many side things for fans and the like. But that's just me. Save your money and wait for the video.Paul

Just watched the extended cut. Warner dropped the ball big time by not releasing it theatrically. It's clearly the film Snyder intended as his final cut and many (not all) of the film's shortcomings are addressed. Where I'd give the theatrical cut 7/10, I'd give the extended cut 8.5/10. Much better at developing the Superman side of the story.
Reminds me of Kingdom of Heaven. Longer cut much better (not always the case but very much so for these two films).Comment

Yeah my buddy said the same thing, said the Theatrical cut left so much out, and the extended was a full 30+ minutes longer and filled in the movie so much better. We were going to rent it on our cable box last night and he said if they didn't have the extended to not even bother, so we're going to grab rent it on disc instead.Comment

Finally got a chance to watch the extended cut version (took 2 rentals to finally get the right one) and I felt it was very good the wife enjoyed it as well. I'm not sure what was left out in the theatrical version but I can't imagine leaving out any part that I saw in the extended version.Comment
