    The Martian

If it's still at a local cinema, I recommend seeing it on a big screen (unless you have a quite large one at home). Took my daughter to see it last week and we both enjoyed it quite a bit. If you liked Gravity you should enjoy this one as well. Not a philosophical musing on "out there" but rather a "down to earth" (pun intended) survival story that is mostly plausible (a rare quality in such stories).

This has already been reviewed here: Link to "At The Movies and on TV"

saw this last night with The Wife (rented from Comlast for $5.99)

this film exemplifies Hollywood at its best (which is not necessarily meant as a compliment).

Monitorless audio playback via VFD - plausible?
            by Fryguy
I would like to do a setup in which if I want to listen to music using my HTPC (assuming it either has a large hard drive with all of the music installed, or has a network connection to the required media), that a VFD on the case would be sufficient for navigating to get this one. IE. play music without...

            by Chris D
Note: I will try to keep my first post in this thread free of significant plot spoilers for the sake of those who haven't seen the movie yet. But further discussion may get more detailed.

Okay, I just got back from seeing an advance showing of the Matrix Reloaded. Anyone else? The theater...

Breaking with modern conventions - a highly musical 2-way system using an 8" woofer
            by theSven
            By Jon Hancock

This article will describe the fruits of my efforts to build a moderate sized speaker which might be moderately above average in performance for a basic two-way system. I desired a speaker like this both for my own use in secondary systems, and to fill a need for some friends, who desired fairly full range response (i.e., “it’s gotta have good bass”). Also, though I have access to a good wood shop, many potential DIY enthusiasts may not, so I hoped to use a modified...
