Sci-Fi TV shows

I'm not a massive Sci-Fi fan or anything, but my two favorite shows of all time happen to be Sci-Fi shows.

My favorite show ever is the new version of "The Outer Limits". It's a different story with different actors every single time. Nothing similar between any shows at all. They're about the future, or the past, about imaginary worlds, or our own, about technology, or the human spirit. Some of them are really lame, and some are absolutely awesome. Very few are actually somewhere inbetween, just okay. Each one begins and ends with a narrator speaking a theme or lesson learned. Some are astounding.

Most of the Outer Limits nowadays are re-runs, though. I'm still waiting for complete season DVD's to come out of the new Outer Limits--they only have a very select few. My current favorite show that's presently running in mass production is the new Battlestar Galactica. They're really doing a good job with this one.

I watch the Outer Limits some, the one that comes on about 12-1:00 AM EST Sat night usually., which I guess is like 10 or so your time. Or is it time delayed? Any rate, They had a really cool one on about mind transfer to mechanical men from humans. It was about Military researchers creating ultimate fighters. I can't recall the name they called these things, I should be able to remember, but I can't. Maybe droids, something like that.

Okay, I'm dating myself with this one. The best early sci-fi serial I've ever seen was Invaders which played in 1967-1968. The aliens were already on Earth in human form. One man had seen them and tried to fight them as best he could, all the while trying to convince people he wasn't crazy. One cool thing (at the time) was when an alien got killed, it vaporized in cloud of light.

I do have to admit that if I saw it today it might not be all that, but in my memory it's a great one. :T

Some tidbits from the show, spoken in a deep sonorous voice:

The Invaders - Alien beings from a dying planet
Their destination - The Earth
Their purpose - To make it their world

David Vincent has seen them, for him it began one lost night on a lonely country road, looking for a short-cut that he never found. It began with a closed deserted diner, and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey. It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy. Now, David Vincent knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form. Somehow he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun .

Oooh, what about Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea? That was another goodie.

Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea was a dandy. Watched it every week. Ironically, my wife's family watched it all the time too --- her dad was a submariner when he was in the Navy.

Jimmy, did he (the dad) enjoy it or were his eyes constantly rolling?

He seemed to enjoy it but thought it was a tad far-fetched.

Invaders was the best early series, but IMO the all-time best by far was X-Files, and then it's sister series Millennium was a good second - well if you consider Millennium sci-fi and not horror. Hmmm, maybe that's another thread too. . . .

Yep. I had a thing for Penny. : I really wanted someone to smack little brother Will with a large stick though. Little twerp.

Ah Penny...yep, I had a thing for her too. I wish the robot would have zapped both Dr. Smith and Will Robinson (wasn't his real name Billy Mummy).

Penny was kind of like Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island.
