Ever since I bought my out-of-the-box region free RDV-985 DVD player it's been regularly loosing its region setting, so I've had to send it over to Rotel. Anybody knows a way to reset it to region 0 ? There's a technical note on Rotel's site to set it to region 1, but nothing else.

I have never heard of the RDV-985 being "region free", or any Rotel DVD player for that matter. Where did you buy this? What does the region code say on the back of the unit, or on the box? How do you know that it was a region free player? I am just curious how you got your hands on this.

I owned a RDV-985 as well. It is codefree, even for RCE discs.
Mine had the same problem once, and forgot its regioncode as well.
I had to send it to Rotel to reset its values. I unfortunately do not know what they did, because it only happend once to me. Rotel fixed it and that was it...Marantz AV8802, Marantz UD8002, Rotel RB-991 and RB985mkii, Rotel RD960

I own a RDV1060 and it came regionfree out-of-the-box and it works without any problem (I buy most of my DVD's in the States).

hmmm... my previous thread has led me to another question.......I know you cant play Region 1 DVD's in Region 4 or others but I also know that you have regionfree DVD players....or you can tweak your DVD's to be region free.......but the real question coming to my mind is :

I saw a while back a guy in U.K. selling some type of factory service CD that makes Denon 2200 and 2900 region free. He claimed it's completely safe and won't void warranty. My regionfree rdv-1080 just got memory erased! I did a factory reset and didn´t thought about the region-codes also would be erased in that procedure.
Does anyone out there know how to get it back?

Rotel has 'all' enabled dvd players in other countries. I asked tech support (rotel)and they said that even though there is no law against selling region free...
