    RT1080 Tuner Question

Running the RT1080 with a 1068 and have everything working great except the "RDS and RDBS Reception" information. The manual states that by hitting display repeatedly, one should be able to set what is displayed on the 1080. I simply want the Standard (choice 1) Frequency Display but it switches to a blinking PS every couple of minutes and then gives me jumbled information about the radio station (which is being sent with the broadcast) so I'd like to only ever see the Frequency (e.g. 107.90MHz). Anyone able to shed some light?
    Thanks

As far as I know, RDS is not very common in the US. RDS is a system that is mainly used in Europe. I have the RT 1080 too, and over here in Germany RDS works very well. However, even here not every station is sendind a RDS signal. And in this case you will only see the frequency in the display and not the RDS informations like the station name.

      Ossi-
Thanks for the reply. Since the info the local stations are sending is so jumbled I'd simply like to only display the frequency. Are you able to set your tuner to NOT display the RDS info and just the frequency?
      thanks again.

You should be able to display only the frequency, as you are asking. It should be display option 1. By hitting the display button you have 5 different display settings. This is straight out of the manual.

        DISPLAY Button

There are five display options when the tuned
station is broadcasting RDS data and the RDS
indicator in the display is lit. Press the DISPLAY
button to step through the five available options:

        1. Standard FREQUENCY display.

        2. PROGRAM SERVICE name. This is typically
the station’s call letters, such as BBC1. If
the current station is not broadcasting an
RDS signal, the display will show a blinking
        PS indication.

        3. PROGRAM TYPE. This is a description of
the station’s content from a list of program
types (for example: NEWS, CURRENT AFFAIRS,
INFO, SPORT, EDUCATION, DRAMA, CULTURE, SCIENCE,
VARIED, POP, ROCK, EASY LISTENING, LIGHT CLASSICAL,
        SERIOUS CLASSICAL, OTHER MUSIC, WEATHER,
FINANCE, CHILDREN, SOCIAL AFFAIRS, RELIGION, PHONE
IN, TRAVEL, LEISURE, JAZZ, COUNTRY, NATIONAL MUSIC,
OLDIES, FOLK, and DOCUMENTARY). If the station
is not broadcasting an RDS signal, the display
will show a blinking PT indication.

        4. CLOCK TIME. A time and date display
broadcast by the station. If the station is
not broadcasting an RDS signal, the display
will show a blinking CT indication.

        5. RADIO TEXT. Scrolling text messages broadcast
by the station. If the station is not broadcasting
an RDS signal, the display will show
        a blinking RT indication.

        Hopefully it works this way.

Therein lies my issue. My tuner doesn't behave that way. Sometimes when I hit display I get no response, sometimes yes. So when it is giving me feedback, I cycle until I get the frequency and then stop but 30 secs later I get the flashing PS. I'm wondering if it is implemented this way where it goes through the different modes automatically or if you really can just choose one and have it stick. Anyone willing to do a test to see?
          Thanks for the help.

No it is not designed this way. It should stay on displaying the frequency only, if that is what you have selected. You should maybe try and reset the unit and see if it helps. I think the reset is in the owners manual too.
