    1068 ... what poweramps. I have a few choices ?

    Hiya,

OK 1068 arrives Friday i've got a few choices for power amps, not sure what to go for. Any comments / advice would be appreciated.

I've got B&W Spekers. CDM 7NTs at the front with the CDM NT Centre. Rears are just baby 600 series speakers.

All options can be done with the 900 series equivelent or the 10xx series.

    So..

    Choice 1:
    1 x 1075
1 x 1070 for fronts probably clearer using the 2 chan version for stereo.

    Choice 2:
    2 x 1075
With this I can bi-amp the front 3 speakers.

    Choice 3:
    1 x 1075
1 x 1080 cannot bi-amp the fronts but have the stronger amp. Not sure which of these would be better.

I realise i can use 2 x 985 or 985 and 991 etc... but will I hear my improvement over choice 1 with either 2 or 3, and if so is there much between 2 or 3

Source is going to be a Denon DVD Player, and a DAC of somesort for CDs, maybe a Musical Fidelity A3.24 or Cyrus DAC, something like that.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

My next upgrade will be a 5 channel amp. I am running a Rotel 1056 and using my old Denon AVR 2800 to power the back center surrounds and a second zone.

My short list is the Rotel 1075, 985, 985 MKII, and Parasound 1205a.

        Hi,

I vote No. 3 as well.

I have this amp set-up and IMO the 1080 is a well worthwhile step-up on both the 1075 and 1070 for stereo - especially for harder to drive speakers like the B&Ws you have...

There are quite a few posts on this if you search this forum, including comparisons of the 1070 and 1080 and peoples implementation experience in stepping up from a 1075 to a 1080 - everyone who has done so has found the extra separation / dynamics / control etc for stereo well worthwhile - especially once the 1080 "beds in" after a couple of weeks use,

        Geoff
