      You and me both buddy.
Yes the old matrix series are very nice, may not look at good as the new Nautilus series, but I actually prefer their sound. Much warmer and with more soul.
Best thing is that you can pick them up really cheap now :P as everybody want the new ones...
My next project will be building a matching center speaker. Have purchased B&W units exactly like the ones in the 801/802's (Tweeter and Midrange) and will be using a set of bass units from the CDT series, as buying the bass units from the 802's was to expensive.
So when I find the right carpenter I hope to be able to build the center that B&W should have had, but never had...
Imagine, 1 tweeter, 2 kevlar midrange and 2 bass units. :T :T :T :T Oh and naturally the same cross over as in my 801's!!!

Very Nice Bill :T Those Dym's are nice 8)

Anders, those 801/02 Matrix are a super deal it seems. The biggest issue is the shipping would probably kill me, so I must pay attention to where the seller is located. I'm keepin my eyes open for a sweet deal on them however

Sounds like an awesome center you ahve planned. I never thought that the Matrix never wer designed to have a centre speaker  Looking forward to seeing it posted someday :T

Not quite true. They did make one, size of a shoebox and sounded like one as well (allthough a very good shoebox..)

Saw a "cheap" set of 801's the other day, and I seriously considdered buying them to use one as center - but then I remembered............... I am married....

When I hit the PowerBall Lottery (oh yeah...I'm gonna) 5 Nautilus 800's will adorn my new home's media room.

I fell in love with B&W's when I learned that they were used in Abbey Road Studios. If they're good enough for them, surely they're good enough for me.

I've got a pair of 601s2 in my living room. I refer to it as my BritKit:

            NAD C340 Integrated Amp
            Cambridge Audio D300 CD Player
            B&W DM601s2 Speakers

The Paradigms mate very well with the Rotel gear...mush better than the Vienna Acoustics setup I had previously. The Dyms truly know how to rock. I'm tempted to juice them with a 1095 and sell the 1075...

                      Bill,

Very nice setup. I have walls that are a similar colour (more royal blue though, white celing), and I haven't been loving my cherry speakers...but I looked at your pics and the cherry matches nicely with your walls...I have some new perspective, so thanks.

Do you have an equipment list or closeups of your equipment racks ?

                        Drew,

Thanks for the compliments. My blue is more of a navy (some would say Penn State). I had Vienna Acoustic Mozarts in Beech which is very similar to the Paradigm Natural Cherry and liked it a lot.

                        My gear is as follows:

                        LEFT RACK (top to bottom):
                        Rotel RSP-1066 Pre/Pro
                        Denon DVD-2900 SACD DVDA/V Player
                        Sony PS2
Motorola DCT-5100 HD Cable Box, Comcast Service
                        Rotel RMB-1075 Power Amp

                        RIGHT RACK:
                        Rega Planet 2000 CD Player
                        Philips CDR-600 CD Recorder
                        Sony MDS-JB920 MiniDisc Deck
                        Sony TC-WE605S Cassette Deck
                        Realistic Tape Monitor Hub

                        Speakers:
                        Paradigm Reference Studio 100v3 (Front)
                        Paradigm Reference Studio CC-470v3 (Center)
                        Paradigm Reference Studio 20v3 (Surround)
                        SVS PC+ 20-39 (Sub)

                        Room is 13'W x 15'L x 8'H

I've got some acoustic treatments on the way from Michael Green Audio.

I hail from Arkansaw Wi. originally, we moved to Prescott in 1972 (pathetic little town it is) raised a family here and are trying to get land bought back home around Arkansaw,Eau Galle,.....Living on the Minnesota border has turned me into a hardcore CHEESEHEAD.....As far as the Klipsch, they are the RF7's, and I cannot honestly imagine anything sounding better w/ the Rotel gear. I haven't heard B&W's but have to believe the Klipsch are a close competitor. Even at low volumes these things sound incredible.

Very nice system! How is B&W's new 700 Series? I wanted to audition them but none of my local dealers had them in stock at the time I was looking. They sure LOOK very nice, did you have a chance to compare them to the 600 Series and/or the 800 Series?

Bill Blank>> Thanks for the compliment! I love the 705s. I auditioned B&W805 & 705 and Paradigm Studio 40 & 20 before purchasing the 705 (as you can see, I am partial towards bookshelf speakers). I A/B tested the 805 and 705 at a local stereo shop and find that the 705 sounded very similar to the 805 (very clear and smooth; extremely revealing). Although I do think the 805 sounded a tiny bit better (not by much), I couldn't justify the price differences between it and the 705. I finally got my Velodyne SPL-1200II to match up well with the 705, and they sound good! :T

The Paradigmns I auditioned sounded pretty good as well, but I don't think their mid/high are as clear as the B&Ws. But they are certainly good speakers, in fact, I almost went with the Studio40s.

wil1066>> Thanks for the welcome! Where are you located in NYC? I am down in Battery Park City, a few blocks away from WTC.

Bing the DB25 connector is a hold over from older Rotel designs...my first Rotel pre amp had that connection type available as did a couple of others but it never caught on for one reason or another.

how about a couple of rubber door stops. They work like a charm.

Hmmm, honestly, you have a tough situation there, nyny. Short of replacing the TV rack/shelf, there's not much you can do because of the extreme angle that would be necessary to tilt it up to ear level. The HTM 7 is a big hulking center by center-speaker standards and there's not much wiggle room in that rack, as far as I can see. Plus, even if you did tilt it up, you'd still run into all sorts of reflection problems from the sound of the center traveling directly into the coffee table.

That coffee table and rack are both working against you for placement of the center speaker but you might still be able to tilt it up a little with some door stops. One thought I had was how modular is that rack? Could you for example move the device below the TV to the rack on the right (its ok to stack DVD players etc) and then move that shelf down so that there's room for the center to sit in that space...or are the shelves fixed in place?

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice! I will get a couple of door stops and will take apart the TV rack and move the smaller shelf to the bottom of the rack and move the larger shelf up. I am sure going to get a good workout out of this considering that the SONY TV weights close to 300 pounds... :B I guess I will have to call my buddy over to help me move this sucker.

It'll be worth it for the better center speaker performace which for movies is really the key speaker...but please be carefull moving that TV I'd hate to hear you hurt your back moving it

The subwoofer is only a 600. The room is 12x18.. I may later on add another sub, but for now I'm pretty satisfied with the bass even though I've read that many people are not that impressed with the B&W 600 or 650 subs.

The fireplace is awesome! :W of course I use it during the winter months only (around nov-feb) it really adds to the ambience when watching movies...

The sound effects with the ADPs are amazing and blend seamlessly into the rest of the system. I have 2 great stories, both involve movies when there is a storm. The first was during Fallen when it started thundering but it hadn't started raining in the movie yet. My friend and I looked at each other and both asked if that was outside or part of the movie. After getting up to look outside and then the rain starting to come in the next couple minutes in the movie, we determined that it was in reality the movie track. lol. the other story is similar in Open Range during a downpour. Both my buddy and his girlfriend said they couldn't even tell it was the speaker system and it really sounded like it was pouring outside. I can't help but get a huge grin on my face when that happens and think to myself... "yeah, the $900 for those adps was worth it!" the Rotel 1075 brings them even more to life that before.

I think sometimes we enthusiasts can become so accustomed to good sound that we don't appreciate fully what we've got, getting lost in upgrades and tweaking rather than just sitting back and appreciating what we've got. When a neighbor, friend, or family member get the WOAH! effect it reminds us just how damn cool this hobby is.

And damn me as I'm saying this as I get ready to pick up a new CD player this weekend...but that's another story.

I'm running 20's for rears primarily because of MCH music listening on SACD and DVD-A discs. I've only heard the ADP's in the store and they do provide a much more diffuse soundfield around the listener.

Prior I had a full Vienna Acoustics setup (Mozarts/Maestro/Haydn) and while very nice just wasn't exciting enough for me.

I think the Paradigms mate very well with the Rotel sound.

The dealer I go to had the 1068 and 1075 running their Paradigm room. I am leaning more toward the 1068 now as the more I think about it and the more Andrew influences me ( :T ). I'm not as worried about the hardware upgrades down the road, but when I do upgrade, I would like to get a 2 channel Rotel for the fronts and add the Studio 20s for rears in a 7.1 setup and the 1068 will handle that fine.

Bing... thank you! The monitor is for my HTPC that is on top of my rack. I know the picture is kind of crappy but that's an HTPC case up there. I ran extension cords around my room so I could have the monitor beside my couch. I'm running a dual display setup so I can watch DVDs in 720p on my HDTV and still chat away or browse the internet on my LCD as primary. That's the wireless keyboard and mouse sitting on my coffee table as well. The ability to zoom the screen to the perfect size in Zoom Player is very nice when running a 1280 x 720 rez on the HDTV.
