GSamF, What are those Monster units you have? Is one of them an Amplifier the other a Voltage stabilizer? Nice :T

Andrew, the Rotel Pooba finally weighs in :W Nice Theater :T

Your speakers are bigger than I remember them to be. They must rock out pretty well and play loud?

Do you use an IR extender to tag the 1098 at the perpendicular angle with remote?

Like the new Sub amp :T

Bing no the Rotel 1098 and all the other gear for that matter have no problem with the angle from the remote at my listening position. If I back up a few feet though some devices stop responding (CD player) but by and large things work great. The extender I have is for the second zone aka the living room upstairs to mainly port my CD collection upstairs. As for the speakers I rebuilt two of the 4 into ported towers so you might be thinking back to when I only had the four sealed "bookshelf" units...though calling a 80 lbs speaker a bookshelf model is a little extreme :W

          Bing-

The monster gear is a power conditioner/voltage regulator (AVS2000ss) and line conditioner (HTPS 7000ss). The line conditioner I'm a believer in, but the voltage regulator is one glorified power strip with maybe a bell and whistle. But I got em together at an unbelievable price, and they match up perfectly with the rotel amp, plus the blue lights in the rotel match the blue on the monster.

Thanks for posting right after me Andrew, it's not like I don't already feel the need to upgrade my tv!

Andrew, I see. I just notice my 1098 does not respond well to the remote that came with it at extreme angles like that.... ( I do like the Stock Rotel Remote though). I forgot your probably using the Pronto, which from my use, I have found you can bounce that off ceilings, opposing walls, even from behind the equipment. I like the Rotel remote so much I have yet to program my Pronto, but I suppose I should get at it before the family gets after me...

GSamF, Whever the benifits, they look very cool in the system, I love it! :T :T Are the LED colors changable?? The ones I seen at the local store were all Red displays?

I too have though of getting one of those Monster units just cause they match so well with the Rotels.... However I would need a killer deal like you got as I have the Monster 2100 Power Bar Line Conditioner already.

Not as cool as your 2 units, but it's a Monster Power bar none the less, this mofo is huge :roflmao:

So *FINALLY* Andrew Pratt updates his webpage

Looks great! Where did you get those logo plaques? What material are they made of ?

And I have forever wondered why you sold the MF DAC. How did it compare to the Rotel?

(sorry to hijack this thread...when my RSP-1066 gets here and I reshuffle my cabinet, I'll post some pics too).

Five response pages bing?!? Nice thread...

The newer monster "signature series" with the blue LED's are almost identical to the red ones except the blue lights, better power chord, and one other internal circuit upgrade. Plus, the "head monster" dude, Noel Lee has a plate with his signature on top (big whoop!!), and one of mine is actually hand signed from him (I believe he signed a bunch personally, but more than half have the digital signature on the plate). I believe the signature line is ridiculous to be priced retail at $200 bucks more a piece than the red line, but people like the blue. Once again, I wouldn't have done it without the kick ass deal I got, but my brother in law who has the red ones swears by both of them. And if you fish around the web looking at high end systems (a lot higher than mine), a bunch have these included so I feel pretty good about my purchase.

I tell ya, if you do get one, get the line conditioner. I run my cable through it to the tv, and I have crappy cable service but it has considerably cleaned it up to a very noticable difference. I haven't done an a/b comparison on the sonic advantages half cuz I'm afraid too, and half cuz it will be a pain to do.

Once again, nice thread Bing and welcome to the Rotel listening experience. These guys here are pretty cool and well informed... and only slightly biased to the Rotel gear, but usually will tell you straight up what is what.

And Andrew and Jason, you do a great job responding to all questions and I'm sure it is appreciated by more than just me.

                happy listening,
                Sam

Hey Sam, thanks :T Yeah, it has been an eye opening thread with nice systems. And has helped me in my Rotel equipment decisions. Basically it seems that Rotel owners take a lot of pride in their equipment, they are a special lot indeed... They remind me of the BMW tuners Club, where all the cars are tweaked or tricked out for performance :B

I'm having a dedcated power line ran to my equipment :T I got a screaming deal on my Monster Bar too, however I would much rather have that line conditioner like yours with the blue. I will keep an eye out for the line conditioners, yah never know what a person may find.

                  Drew_W, Hijack away

My TV isn't anything special though I do like the image the Wega gives me...there's nothing like watching a movie on the PJ though

So *FINALLY* Andrew Pratt updates his webpage
ops: Yeah sorry for the delays...its one of those things that I've put off since I'd really like to do an overhaul of the whole website but that just isn't going to happen anytime soon so I decided to just do a quick and dirty update for now.

Looks great! Where did you get those logo plaques? What material are they made of ?
The DD one came from the Dolby Store. You can order the DTS one from the DTS online store but shipping is really high...and the THX one is next to impossible to find as they're really anal about having their logo's on items...mine came from a theater I think as it has an aluminum back with a graphite type resin on the front while the DD and DTS ones are plastic.

And I have forever wondered why you sold the MF DAC. How did it compare to the Rotel?
Basically to my ears the Rotel more then held its own against the MF so I sold it to fund other projects

And Andrew and Jason, you do a great job responding to all questions and I'm sure it is appreciated by more than just me.
Thanks you guys are what makes it all worth it:T

I would not use a tuner very much, but I like how it adds to the stack of Rotels as more matching equipment. I would like to add that and a CD/DVD player just for the looks, and hey.. I could use them to output material too :B

                                                Hi Bing,
Now that you have an RSP-1098 / RB-1080, I was wondering how two channel music sounds through your B&W 603 S2's? I'm thinking of putting together a two channel system around a RA-1062 (plus maybe a RB-1080) and B&W 603 S3's or 604's. Any thoughts on the musical quality of the 603/604 series through Rotel gear?

                                                thanks,
                                                Stephen

Thanks on the floors guys. They are 1960 vintage that I refinished many years ago. The sure have with stood the test of time. :T

Jason, yeah, I have been flogging it when ever I can... I hope to post a separate thread about it once I'm confident that I have it all sorted out. The short of it is I have noticed it to be very detailed, clean and powerfull, to the point that it does not sound very loud but it actually is. The DSP during dolby digital use is very good with a lot more expanse in the sound feild, I noticed my center channel isn't as boxy sounding anymore. Surround use is more spacious. Operationally I find the 1098 is very simple to use. Its very quick to set up as well for your required program. No contest on the 1098 compared to the Denon 3300 it replaced.

The 1080 is very powerfull and can drive my 603's to very loud levels. It seems to have very good depth as well front to back, as well as great centre imaging. I think it's a nice replacement for my old Bryston, but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up the Bryston just yet, I guess I just don't want to believe and admit that the Rotel is a better sounding, more powerful amp... But I'll have to face the fact someday, not just yet

whmacs, I find the 1080/603's to be very good, however just a bit on the bright side at times for particular recordings. This may not be a fault of the combination, rather a fault of my room. It is only 12 feet in depth and is a very bright sounding room. I don't have lot of soft things to dampen reflections.

That being said, I have had 3 systems changes since living here and the 1080/603 is the best sounding so far in my memory. Edging out my old Energy Pro Reference 22 monitors (sniff, I loved those speakers  ) and Luxman M02/C02 Separates. However I do notice that they all seem to have the same simular sonic signatures, so it has to be my room.

There is a lot of detail in the system, with adequate bass even with out the sub. One thing for sure is the 603's are very revealing as they have cut my CD collection nearly in half. When I first got them I realized how many crappy sounding/recorded CDs I had... Its actually disheartening to play old favorites only to say "that doesn't sound so good now...." However on a well recorded CD it really sings! Fleetwood Mac Rumors is awesome for an old cd, however Yes Fragile.. meh... Dire Straits Money for Nothing, Awesome....! Jetho Tull Aqualung... meh... Pink Floyd Final Cut, excellent! U2 Greatest hits, kinda tinny sounding... Supertramp "Bloody Well Right" Ear to ear grin baby!!

I have yet to hear a bad Jazz CD on the 603's so I really think this is their area of strength, as well as Vocals. Spyra Gyra, Dave Koz, Crusaders, Chrisiten Mcbride, Jesse Cook.. All excellent :T

Diana Krall on SACD Stereo, breathtaking! Steely Dan on DVD-A Multi Channel, Kick ass!

It's a fine combo indeed. I'm very happy with the sound of my 603's, they provide a lot of value and performance. They are detailed enough and image very well. The 1080 is clean and powerfull and does a good job powering the 603, which I don't think are difficult to drive in the first place.
