    Cinema EQ

Can anyone tell me ... the Cinema EQ mode on the RSP1066 ... does it just roll off the high end frequencies ... or is it more complex in the manner of THX Re-eq processing?

Doesn't say in any of the manuals.. I would imagine it a little bit more than a rolloff.. Probably THX without the name.. A call to Rotel would clarify it though..

Either way, I don't care for THX or Cinema EQ

There might be something about it on the THX site but in essense yes it rolls off the high end a little. Its intended for DVD's that have a sound mix that's recorded too hot with the intent that the centre channel would be located behind a screen as occurs in most movie theaters. If the DVD hasn't been remixed for the home environment and your center channel isn't behind a screen then you may find some sound tracks too bright at the top end....most modern DVD's that I know of have been remixed for home though so I'm not sure how important this is any more.

I had a THX Select receiver (Onkyo SP-NR900e) before I moved to the Rotel (RSP1066), and I did sometimes try thins re-equalisation (as its called with THX) and I hated the sound of it. Everything sounds very flat with it enabled and therefore I never enabled it. The cinema eq creates a similar flat sound.

In general, just dont use it

After a very long wait (though shorter than the wait B&K owners have been subjected to) the Anthem AVM-20 hardware & software upgrade is now available.

The upgrade adds the following to the pre/pro:

            AnthemLogic replaces the previous 'CinemaLogic'....

IMAX vs. THX: Paradigms relating to HT
            by JonMarsh
I had a very pleasant experience last night, watching an above average new release at my local Regal Cinema, and it got me thinking about somethings which for me sum up my misgivings about conventional HT think and I like to approach some of the home viewing goals from a different perspective and set...

Parasound C1 Settings with THX Subs
            by Chris CRt
            Hello!

I have a random question here. I have a pair of M&K MX-350 THX Ultra subwoofers that I am hooking up to my Parasound Halo C1 unit. Right now, I have the sub out going to one of the subs and the other sub hooked up to Pro 2.

            Under "Size Setup", I am...

THX Cinema mode to the rescue

I had a somewhat strange experience a few nights ago. I rented Amazing Grace (a solid, if somewhat hagiographic, film about William Wilberforce's efforts to get legislation banning the slave trade within the British Empire through Parliament--a nearly 30 year effort). The DD mix was awful. The rears...
