    Need Help with Firmware Update

I have been reading this great site for 3-4 months and I would never thought that my first post would be like this. Here goes.

I have been trying unsucessfully for the last few nights to update to the latest firmware (2.25) that I got from Andrew's site. I followed the instructions very carefully, item by item, but did not have much luck last night. I thought it would be a simple and painless process, well it wasn't.

Today, I looked at my RJ-45 again and found out the wiring scheme aws not the same as what's posted. I got rid of that cable and got another one (green strip to 2, blue strip to 3, and blue and green goes to 5). We'll still having trouble. Now my 1066 won't work at all (what else would I expect).

Here are my questions or need help with:

    1. Did I do something last night to screw it up for good?

    2. Where do I go from here? Send it back to the dealer or send it back to Rotel?

    3. Is there anyway or a reset button somewhere?

    4. If i have to send it back to Rotel, how long would it take? (I can't live w/o music/movies for long)

    Please help!!

I was looking so forward to the Silverbulletcats from Lex that I attempted this upgrade, come Friday all I can do is to look at those pretty silvercats. It's all Lex's fault!

You haven't screwed it up for good since all you'll need to do is write over the firmware again and it should be good to go. The only cavet there is if you tried to download the 2.25 firmware into a first generation machine that was expecting 1.49 instead...in that case it has to go back to Rotel.

In all likely hood there's probably something wrong with your upgrade cable so I'd see if you dealer has one you can borrow or tripple check the one you made to make sure its done properly...that's been the issue with almost every other person posting the same results you had.

I was very thorough and more so last night. I have a 2nd gen, it started out with 2.21.

When I punch in 1, it doesn't do anything. Then I few minutes later, I do my transfering and all I see is garbage running on the PC screen. 20 minutes, it saids something to the effect of "error" and I need to try again. But I get the same thing. I'm running in circles.

      BTW, thanks for your reply.

I bet there is a problem with your cable. Check the instructions on Andrew's site, not the ones on Rotel's site. I had a similar problem with my cable. I would press 1, but nothing would ever happen. If possible have someone else check your cable. 2 pairs of eyes are better than 1.

Also sometime in order to connect the computer to RSP-1066, you need to turn the unit off and on, but not from the remote. You have to do use the on/off button on RSP-1066.

It's been rough at work lately, yet I decided to performed this task. I talked to my dealer this morning and he saids it takes four weeks 8O . I'd go nuts if it takes that long.

I gave it a rest to clear my mind and took a nap after dinner. Then I keep hearing Andrew's voices "it's the cable, it's the cable" very haunting.

I took a look at DB9 again and sure enough, I didn't wire it right. Teach me for using scrap parts from my junk bin.

IT WORKS, IT WORKS

Thanks for all the help and I can sure look forward to my silvercats now. Hopefully tomorrow. 8)

Good to hear that you solved the problem...don't worry about the cable you're not the first to get it mixed up and won't be the last which is why next time you'll be one of the ones telling people to tripple check their cables
