    Living with the RSP 1066

So I am poised to buy a new AV amp.

I have looked at HK7500......Case too huge. 51 cm Front to Back and only a small rack to sit it on. Other than the case it was a reasonable unit.

Denon AV11SR (tempted to wait for the 3803) similar to above, but will fit on the rack without the feet falling off the front edge.

Rotel RSP1066/RMB1075, a PrePro amp combination in budget. Well that has upgrade potential which I like.

So I start digging and find you guys. I am a Pronto user and my questions are of that nature.

I had a very reluctant wife who did not like the pile of remotes (Sky, VCR1,VCR2, DVD, Tuner, Amp, Curtains, Lights etc) and the twenty three buttons you had to press in the right order to get things running.
The Pronto resolved all this with activity based macros. Listen to Music, Watch DVD etc..

So I need huge Pronto compatibility. I think the Yamaha units are great, more IR commands than any person could want.

I have listened to the rotel and it does the required job. Now I just need to confirm system compatibility, the demo I had didn't have the right remote so I couldn't play.

The RSP1066 talks about separate on off commands but only has one button. Can someone confirm that there is a separate on/off button and it is pronto compatible.

Are there separate commands for each source. DVD, VCR, TUNER, CD etc.

Can I select a sound mode discretely. 2 Channel, 5.1, ProLogicII etc. I think some are toggles like PRoLogic II sound modes but I can live with that.

The zone2 stuff is a little clunky but I can live with it.

Are there any other gripes Pronto users have found. I would rather buy a unit I new had some quirks than find them later. I have asked my dealer and he is asking rotel but they are taking some time to come back with a response.

I appreciate any response and look forward to comments and hopefully to joining in as a true member if/when I get this kit.

I've got the pronto 2000 and I use it with the 1066 and I don't have any problems. Since it seems that your having some problems getting answers about compatability, I'd suggest you go to the rotel website, download the already programmed codes into the pronto and take it to the store that has the 1066 and try it out.
Or you could try remotecentral.com, they have an area for pronto users that may be able to answer some of your more technical questions

I'm a pronto programmer and Rotel owner and i haven't found an issue with the Rotels that I wasn't able to work around easily so to answer your questions yes the Rotels are very pronto friendly. if you like I can send you my CCF.

ROTEL, like so many other high end gear companies. Knows about the Pronto, it's potential and it's user following. To that end, they have addressed your concerns They actually have ccf files on their website for everything they make . :T The ccf files contain discrete commands as well. Like choosing a DSP without running through the toggle sequence. Or changing the source discretely as you wish. And yes, there are discrete on and off codes there.

        ROTEL ccf files

No need to go to the store. I use the ROTEL codes. Not their buttons, because they're really blah. But after creating my own button, I just cut and past the ROTEL codes from the imported ccf, and everything works great. I even decided to just leave the ROTEL "device" in the structure, but made it hidden.

I've been using them for a month, and have yet to come across something I cannot do with the ROTEL ccf codes.

Hmm. I don't see the RSP-1066 there now. And I know I got mine from there (before the redesigned site anyway.)

Andrew, have you got the ccf for the 1066 that came from the ROTEL site? It's got discrete buttons for inputs, and DSPs?

Just grab my ccf from my website. It has all the codes you need as well as a way to get into both DTS neo formats.

Well, that's fine. But my question was two fold. I've got the ROTEL file. Would you like it to post for those who maybe interested? It has all the things you mention. I assume your ccf has all your other gear, and therefore, there would be some cleaning up to do. The ROTEL ccf is stricly 1066. Just wonderin'

                Thanks guys,

I had checked the Rotel site and found the Pronto CCFs, although I also didn't find the 1066 and assumed they hadn't done one yet.

Andrew will follow the link on Monday and download when I'm at work as it has a better link than home (33.6).

Glad you all think it is Pronto Friendly, will play with the ccf and look at the buttons and workarounds for sound modes. Assuming this is OK the I guess I will order a Rotel.

                Thanks for the help

Thomas Sure I could host the original CCF on my site. My CCF has the original panels in it as well so it wouldn't be hard to "clean up" It also has a workaround to get into the various DTS modes that wasn't on the original CCF from Rotel.

                    Andrew,

Thanks for the assistance so far. I have downloaded the ccf and had a look. I assumed it was the pages 1-4 not the 1055 - * pages.

However I did have a look at the pages for the 1055 and it had a multi button on it. Does this perform the same action as the multi button on the front of the unit? Does it work for the 1066?

Thecodes for CD etc were the same as the main zone so I assume pressing the multi button puts it into multi mode and then uses the same code.

My only current whinge is the need for zone 2 remote IR to be fed via hardwire cable. Assuming the remote multi button gives ten seconds to perform multi-room functions then pronto can perform.

So does the 1066 have a button on it that gives access via local remote to the zone2 functions without the need for me to get out of my chair?

The button on the unit was multi-zone on for ten seconds unless pressed again when it was turned off. so multi-action-multi will give a discrete zone 2 action?

I look forward to your responses.

                    Thanks

                    Dave

I just ordered 2 of the discounted Prontos and after reading this thread I am starting to realize the potential of these remotes! I hadn't really thought about their programmability and I'm thrilled to know that there are codes available that add functionality not available on the original device remote....

I think I am going to have fun with these!!!

The Pronto is great, I love this thing. It took me a few weeks to figure out prontoedit and then a few more to find all of the buttons I wanted to use but once I got everything set up, I never looked back. I have it running my home theater in the family room and then I can take it upstairs to the set-up in the bedroom. My only decision is whether to upgrade to a color Pronto since I currently have the 2000. It is so versatile I recommed it to anyone.

I love the pronto too but the Pronto appreciation site is elsewhere! I know I spend enough time on it.

Does the multi button work for the 1066 to allow local remote control of the zone2 output?
If no-one is using it can someone test it for me. Press the multi button followed by an input and see if it changes the main source or not.

                            Thanks in advance

                            Dave

I was in MegaChain Ltd today as my TV has died, the policy entitles me to a replacement model. So I went to choose one, the salesperson asked if he could help as he caught me fiddling with the remote control. I talked about the auto selecting of scarts instead of scrolling through them. He then suggested I bought one of their prologic II home cinema systems and told me it did all the selecting for me so I only needed one scart.

Apparently it does everything I want and is a complete solution. Sounds too good to be true. Actually it probably doesn't sound too good. Can't wait for them to deliver it...too someone else's house.

I did some research for it though and I can't find any mention of bass management issues so perhaps it is better than the Rotel.

I know the feeling, I can't wait to be unpacking boxes and reprogramming my Pronto for the new amp and what will probably be a new TV.

Probably will spend most of the day playing with the boxes though!
Are the boxes actually more fun than the devices or is that just me. Maybe we could start a forum for the kit with the best boxes!!!!

Why is the box for the Pronto charge twice the size of the box for the Pronto itself?
