    Rotel 1065 v. 1055 v. 1066

    All,

I am seriously considering the purchase of a Rotel 1065 receiver, and have been reviewing the posts on this forum. I note that there is a lot of info on the 1066+Amp, and 1055, but relatively little on the 1065. I will be using it with B&W N804, N805, and HTM2.

From the posts on this forum I note that the 1066 and 1055 appear to use same pre/pro. Both are mentioned in discussions of base doubling "issue"; bass doubling functionality has been "improved" in stereo modes; firmware revisions and functionality additions appear to be identical for both units; video switching has been improved to 200Mhz bandwidth with version 2.x of each unit; etc.

There doesn't appear to be any mention of the 1065 in regards to the above issues. The firmware rev numbers for the 1065 are completely different as is the functionality added with each.

Do all the improvements and modifications, particularly bass doubling and 200Mhz, described for the 1055 and 1066 apply to the 1065? Are the processor sections very different? Is the 1065 outdated and not worth consideration?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The 1065 is certainly not out-dated. The processing is EXACTLY the same as in the 1066/1055. Which means the same DSP, DAC's and ADC's.

The 1065 also is updated to 200 MHz video through-put. Whenever a new firmware update is available for the 1066/1055, at the same time there is also new firmware for the 1065 with the same issues being solved.
The reason the 1065 has different firmware is that it has a different display (two lines of info) and that it can not re-direct the front-amps to surround-back (as the 1055 can do).

Because of a far better amp-section the 1065 is to be preferred over the 1055. If you are considering the 1066/1075 combo, then that is to be preferred. Only because for the seperate housings for processor and amp. And because the 1075 amp is slightly better than the amp in the 1065.

Or, some of us are using the 1055 with an amp like the RB-1070 to drive the mains. This will give you better main amplification for 2CH music than the internal amps of the 1065 for the same price. To some of us this is preferred.

I think the best way to go is the RSX 1055 and RMB 1075. After me making the mistake of going with the RSP 1066 & 1075 and needing another amp for 7.1 Im kicking myself. The 1055 & 1075 is cheaper then the 1066&1075 combo and then the added expense for another amp on top of that. Would have 10 channels and saved alot of cash to boot.
