    Interesting product from Rotel

I just head from Mike about a new product that Rotel is showing off at CES that could prove to be very interesting and is something I've thought should have been made before now...regardless heres what mike had to say about it

"The other hit of the show is our audio networking system. At least 10 of our units now have RS 232 sockets and we have a mini box (ebox or ibox) that is a self contained webserver and IP address generator. You can now plug in a unit to a router and it will pop up on the net as an appliance. Having the built in server you can read and operate your units via any browser. It's so cool you will love it."

    Andrew,

That sounds like a great product bringing us one step closer to the conversion of hifi and computing.

Hrm... does that mean that the proprietary interface on the 1066 will support this device?

well, rs232 doesn;t specify a connector. while most rs232 ports are DB9's (like the serial ports on the back of a computer)m they can also be presented on rj45 (like the rotel or virtually every cisco router) or indeed anything else. rs232 refers to the protocol used to transfer the data. the rotel 1066 *is* an rs232 port as anyone who's flash upgraded their machine knows as they used another rs232 port to connect to it with.

          hi,

thats just what i searched in my thread @ club rotel few days ago.
hmm, a box. software only would be a solution only for one unit.
i think this is the right way, but whats about the price and availability?
400€ or 250$? product launch in 07\2003? uuaaah

CEDIA is 1.5 weeks away. I'll be there and see what's up with the status. Hopefully it's not abandon-ware.

I purchased a Rotel 1098 in late Dec 03. The unit's D/A section failed in Feb 04. While I was dissapointed Rotels customer service was exemplory. I had the unit returned to me in about a week, in good working order and with the benefit of a software upgrade. As important than this however was the way...

                          Hi all,

I was looking up things on the 'Net and came across this. I don't have any empirical knowledge of this product, but it "sounds" interesting (okay, I'll stop with the puns). Thoughts?

Well, no one ever said Sony doesn't march to their own drummer compared with most of the world- the interesting question will be, who else will want to join the parade? This COULD be a pretty classy way for some to upgrade both their video and audio experience....

I've asked, and gotten an "ok" to share some emerging news here that could be of interest to Parasound users.

First, as I posted in the other thread here last week, Parasound is launching a Bypass function for the JC 2, which enables users to insert a JC 2 in a fine multichannel...
