    95% to 99% of all non-pro units/player/pro/pre/amp have unbalanced inputs/outputs

    http://www.yamaha.com/ycaservice/techdocs/Sound/balanced/balance1.htm

"balanced connections are preferable to unbalanced because they are far less susceptible to pickup of interference"

    http://www.rotel.com/faqs/faqsinterconnects.htm

"Balanced connections cancel any noise injected in the line and may provide better sound than RCA connections. "

    http://www.walrus.co.uk/tech/bal.htm

"with careful design, careful earthing arrangements, and good screened cable combined with a low driving impedance, traditional Single Ended connection can still be superb and almost totally noise-free.

      by Chris D
Wow... I just heard that someone with Klipsch speakers was getting a steady low volume hiss of them when driven by Halo amps and a C1/2 processor. The truth about balanced inputs and outputs

I have noticed a number of posts disqualifying the Rotel 1098 from consideration due to lack of balanced connections. I stumbled upon a few interesting articles that explain pros and cons about balanced connections.

In a nutshell, unless you have serious noise problems or a high-end system...
