Having issues with my 1072cdp...any suggestions?

recently I've been having issues with my beloved Rotel 1072 cdp - which I've owned for 5 years- reading discs.

What happens is that when I insert a disc and the player tries to read it, after a few seconds a "No Disc" message is displayed. It will eventually read it after a few attempts at opening and closing the tray. Once the cdp reads the disc, playback is fine- no skipping of tracks or other issues occur.

This problem has been happening for a while, but it's becoming more frequent. Any other 1072 owners experience this problem?

Any thoughts and/or suggestions are welcome.

Your laser and assembly are starting to fail or it's dirty. Pop the drawer and then unplug the unit. Get some lens cleaner or use methyl alcohol and clean the laser lens and the pulleys that drive it. Once done, plug it back in and try it. If it still fails to read the discs, the laser is likely failing and would need to be replaced.

One other thing I've seen happen is that the door is the culprit. This happens when the door does not completely close properly (Mostly due to being hit by accident). The door is connected to the laser assembly and if it does not close correctly, the laser assembly will not read the disc. The door has little 'teeth' on the underside and if you knock the door off even one of these teeth, it is no longer properly aligned and the laser assembly will not activate. I have re-aligned several doors and fixed players with this problem. It's really a trial and error thing though.
