Most of the time, a more powerful amplifier works out better than two smaller amps bi-amped, the reason being the bass frequencies to the woofer use a lot more power than the high frequencies to the tweeter or tweeter/midrange.

The larger power supply and output devices in the larger amp (RB1080 @ 200W) can deliver more reserve power and current for bass demands than it can from the smaller amp (RB1070 @ 130W) particularly since the demands are not always equal between channels.

If the woofer and tweeter sections used equal power, the nod would go to the bi-amp setup, but for most speakers, particularly two-ways, the power split between low and high is more like 80%/20%.

On the other hand, if you added the RB-1080 for the woofers and kept the RB-1070 for the tweeters, you might obviously see an improvement over the RB-1080 alone.

        RB1070 V's RB1080 any diff
        by bleeding ears
        Hi all,

Can anyone tell me the difference soundwise between the RB1070 and the RB1080?

At nearly double the price, does the RB1080 sound any better than the RB1070? (RB1080 = $1600 V's RB1070 =$900) Thats recommended full retail prices in Australia.

        RB1080/RC1082 - I Need a Bit of Guidance
        by kitjv
I had the opportunity yesterday to audition a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s with the Rotel RC1070/RB1070 preamp & power amp combination. My ears were very pleased. However, I am curious about the audible difference that the Rotel RC1082/RB1080 would make with these same speakers. Or maybe going with...

        2 x RB1070 Bridged V's 1 x RB 1080 ?
        by bleeding ears
Hi again guys, looks like I am going to have some time on my hands waiting for my preamp to get fixed so now I am pondering my next purchase.

I am considering using 2 RB1070 amps bridged to power my front speakers.
That should produce about 330 wattts per channel.

        RB1080 Advice
        by wernert
I am considering to complement my existing RMB1075 with a RB1080 which will be used to drive the front speakers. I demoed the RB1070 a while ago, but it was not much an improvement on the existing RMB1075 in 2 channel mode. The RB1080 is definitely the one for me. After reading several articles in...
