HD lossless codecs with RSP 1098

I want to be able to listen to HD codecs but don't really want to change my pre-pro. Is it possible to use a Bluray player to decode the signal and pass it through the 1098?

If your 1098 has a 5.1 channel analog input on the back then yes...easy peasy !! Make sure you get a Blu ray player with 5.1 analog outputs as well. Some do not decode....some do.

Yes, you'll need a player with internal decoding, and analog out. Otherwise, no problem.

Thank you MJB and madmac. Any suggestions on a good Blu-ray player for this purpose?

If you can afford it, the Oppo BDP-95

It will be available in february. If too expensive, you'll probably be able to snag a used BDP-83SE. Both of these players have exceptional DAC converters in them.

            Madmac,

Would the Oppo BDP-93 be a good choice to input to my 1098?

Oppo's are well respected, and provide great picture and sound. The Oppo BDP-93 has 7.1-Channel Analog Output, which is perfect for your RSP-1098. I would say, yes it would be a good choice for your 1098.

Double check if the BDP-93 has analog out jacks on the back for 5.1 audio. If so and on a budget, yes, that is a good player. Probably the best as far as 'regular' audio output players are concerned. If excellent audio is on your mind though and you plan on using your BD player for CD listening, then I would urge you to get the 95 or 83SE because they have seriously upgraded analog audio output capabilities.

No need to "double check", I've done it for you

Thanks to Mike, June and madmac. You have made my decision for me as I still really like my RSP 1098. Help like this is why Club Rotel and the HTguide is so awesome! Money in my pocket.

Prior to committing to a multi-channel pre-amp (RSP-1066), I’ve been studying the specifications and user manuals for both the Rotel RSP-1066 and very new RSP-1098.

                        (a) On page 13 in the RSP-1098 manual it has an explicit...

In feb I had a chance of comparing side by side the rsp 1098 with the rsp 1066. at the time, I was thinking about upgrading from the 1066 to the 1098. the rsp 1098 was a loaner from my rotel dealer. I had the 1098 for one week. Although the 1066 is a wonderful unit, for my usage, ultimately, it was...

                        Hi Guys,
I've had my Rotel RSP-1098 for 7 years now. It has served me very well. I'm moving to an all HDMI setup and contemplating replacing the RSP-1098 with a new HDMI capable processor. I would keep my RMB-1075 and RB-1070 power amps (Current Equipment) .
