    Rotel exchange policy?

    Bought a RSX-1550 about 8 months ago.
After about 6 months of ownership the video 2 input crapped out on me.
Two weeks later the unit began making a steady pop sound whenever the unit was not being feed a video/audio signal. For example- if a DVd was in menu mode- I would hear pop-pop-pop...etc, in the speakers until I started playing the film. Same is true of CD, apple TV, etc.

I felt I was due a replacement unit, but Rotel claims they will only repair.

Anyone have any trouble like this?

I am a loyal Rotel customer.
I buy Rotel for quality in build and performance.
The unit is less than a year old.
I assume they are going repair the unit 100%- so why not just exchange it?
Give me a new 100% working unit and repackage my unit as "new" and sell it to someone else?
This way I do not have to wait and be without the unit. (going on 2 weeks)
I must admit I'm not thrilled at being handed back a unit that was in need of repair so early. Not to mention all the travel it now has to endure- getting banged about.

    I don't know.
I'm kinda bummed by how they handled this.
Will think twice about Rotel as a choice next time.

(Meanwhile- I'm using a temp $200 yamaha unit- that doesn't sound anywhere near the Rotel- but has none of the Rotel issues.)

I think you should be asking your dealer (or Rotel) these questions. Generally from what I've seen here, people are very happy with Rotel customer service.

Yes, that the dilemma, Rotel gear sounds much better than its price point would suggest.

Ohhh nooo......popping noises!!??. I know those noises!!. Let's hope Rotel fixes the issue to your satisfaction. If they don't, then you can scream for a replacement unit.

        I spoke to my dealer.
They said it was at the discretion of Rotel in regards to exchange or repair.
Dealer claims he pushed Rotel for an exchange, but they will not exchange since I bought the unit more than 6 months ago. They will only repair the lemon.

I have had the unit for 8 months and quite honestly it's been having issues for awhile.

I left a VM with Rotel a few days ago.
If this "pop" is a known issue- I will scream loud and heavy for a fresh unit.

Are you in North America or somewhere else? I'll have to check the latest price sheet, but the 15 series one I have access to here states:

          Defective Product
A product failure that occurs within one
year from a customer purchase will qualify
          for an immediate A-stock replacement
shipped prepaid. A copy of the customer’s
sales receipt with serial number (reflecting
the sale within this period of time) is
required along with an RA number, which
will be provided to you by calling our
          Technical Support Department.
Upon receipt of the defective unit we will
issue you a flat rate freight credit in addition
          to the product credit.
The above policy is applicable only to
current product. Once a model has been
discontinued, our standard 90 day replacement
policy will go into effect. The issuance
of A or B stock will be dependent on
          product availability. Alternatively, the unit
can be repaired on an expedited basis. All
prices and terms are subject to changes
          without advance notice.
If you're not in NA, pollicies will be different. Like I said, that may not be the same in the latest price list.

Yes- north America- New York City- well under a year of ownership.

where can I obtain a copy of that policy to show my dealer? I'm curious as to why he didn't know this.
