New guy with a Rotel problem

Great forum but I feel at times that I am in over my head
I need help with my Rotel

Memorial Day weekend my beloved system suffered yet another shut down

ONCE AGAIN the Rotel Surround Sound Processor RSP 1098 has failed during a party for the NBA LAKERS Suns game 6

pretty embarrassing and then of course the Indy 500 party was moved elsewhere

Quite simply the unit shuts down spontaneously and when rebooted it lasts anywhere from 1 minute to thirty before crashing again

I have had this fixed two years ago and the unit was replaced by Rotel due to the same problem.

I have the Rotel Amp DVD and another Tuner , all of them have been flawless.
B and W speakers in a 5.1 arrangments with a Runco projector all excellent

This unit just seems to be of poor protoplasm.
    What gives?

    What do you recommend?

This has to go to Rotel for a fix. This is not an easy fix.

Consider that the unit may have reached it's limits.

First of all, welcome to the forum! Bummer it had to be under these circumstances.

I agree with Ferres. This should be returned to your dealer or if you do not have a dealer, then Rotel directly.

You might want to call your dealer or Rotel first. Very wierd that the same issue has cropped up.

I almost sounds like the power supply acting up, or something telling it to shut down.

      Hope this helps.

If you have excessive power fluctuations where you are, it may be contributing to the problem. You can get a digital meter to check.

Do you have a power conditioner or power regulator?

I am having some trouble with my RT 1080 tuner. I am writing a program so it can interact with my computer but am having a hell of a time with it. I am getting all sorts of "junk" from the serial port and am unable to send any commands with success.

I bought my tuner used and...

At the risk of sounding stupid, what is the ROTEL unit that has a screen on the front of it. Is it a DVD viewer or what?

          All,

I am about to purchase my first Rotel unit from a private party. I was able to find a nearly mint condition (3 months old) 1055 in Manitoba, Canada. I am currently trying to determine the exact "duty" I'll need to pay to bring this baby into California. I can't seem to...

Rotel 1068 Initial impressions vs. Lexicon DC-1
          by spkerguy
          Hello everyone,

I just hooked the 1068 up last Friday and probably have spent a good 10 hours with it so far. The unit I was coming from was a lexicon DC-1 (latest V4. 1999) that had the center channel and sub inputs blown so getting the center and sub back was refreshing. ...

          Processors: Rotel or Anthem
          by DrJRapp
I currently own a Rotel RSP 1066 processor which I desire to upgrade to improve the sonics of my system. I have looked at the 1068 and 1098 Rotel unit's but honestly, I'm very turned off by the fact that Rotel promised a degree of upgrade ability in my 1066 then less than a year later abandoned it....
