    One RB-1090 or Two RB-1080's

Opinions on this would be nice and greatly appreciated. I'm driving B&W 683's. Wondering which would be better. One 1090 or two 1080's bi amping. This may have already been a thread in the past, and if so I apologize.

One RB-1090 will destroy the two RB-1080s.

The 1090 is so much better suited for 2ch listening. Plus the 1090 has dual binding posts, if you use both of them to run to your speaker, it makes a huge difference in the weight of voices. Basically it gets rid of some of the lower mid range from the voicing of male and female vocals.

Plus the power of the 1090 drives the bass speakers far better. The 1090's highs are a slight bit softer, but it gives cymbals a real "metalic" sound that's much closer to how they sound on vinyl.

Over all I'd take a 1090 every time over two 1080s.

    Oh and I should know since I have both a 1090 and 1080 and a 1095.

I have an RB 1090 and RMB 1095. I like the RB 1090 for 2 channel listening. It is in my room running an old pair of Paradigm Atoms. This amp really brought them to life. Smooth highs, midrange and I use an old Energy 10 in sub for bottom end. I may upgrade to Def Tech StudioMonitors at some point but I will put my vote for 1 RB 1090. Thanks.

        I started with a RB980 in 1994, still have a RB1050 & RB990 & RB1090.

I have heard more than a few amps in my own system from the new Emotive line (a 3 channel unit) to class D to high $ 120 watt class A tubes.

Nothing has sounded more musical, tonally balanced & relaxed but with realistic detail than my RB1090.

        As always, JMHO, YMMV.

Looks like the 1090 is in the lead so far

on the other side. 2 - 1080's = 2 power supplies. Thoughts on that?

            BWLover,

The 1090 is a dual mono design. Each channel has it's own power supply and circuitry.

I also voted for the 1090.

RB1090 - but it is too much of an amp for 683s. You are set when you want to upgrade your speakers.

^ +1. I didn't believe it starting off but as I go it's very obvious that the more power you throw at your speakers, the more detail, the alive your speakers become. lol now I just have to find where the power/money ratio making sense.

                        Don't rule out Emotiva

I have a Rotel RC-1090 / RB-1090 system and waited too long to get my other RB-1090 when I wanted another RB-1090.... Rotel stopped making it.

I decided to give Emotiva a go for my second high power system after much positive reviews and recommendations from others.

I have Emotiva RSP-2 pre and Emotiva XPA-1 500watt Amp mono blocks.
This Emotiva system is every bit as good as my Rotel system, almost identical in sound quality except that the Emotiva has slightly more fuller vocals/midrange. The Emotiva ratio is very impressive with cost savings compared of what I paid for my Rotel. Build quality is every bit as good as Rotel. I also have Rotel RB-1080 and it's still a very good amp in it's own right and does very well but I do prefer my RB-1090 over it.

Don't rule out Emotiva if you want to go direct and save some money and get more with the XPA-1. I've seen them selling used sometimes too. JMHO. :T

Oh yea, and if you want to keep everything looking like Rotel..... than Rotel would be the way to go!

                            I currently have a Rotel Rb1090 driving two Aussie mainspeakers ( Vaf I-93 Signatures ) and a Rotel RMB1095 driving the centre and 4 surrounds ( Vaf I-91's ).

                            G'day,

As regular readers know, I originally had a Rotel RSP-1066. The multichannel output was okay, but I wasn't happy with the stereo output, so I traded it on for an RSP-1068. And tomorrow I'm all set to go to the Rotel dealer, to trade in my RMB-1075 amp for an RMB-1095 amp.

Today, I just got back from hearing the 1090 and 1091/1092 amps duke it out with the BW802D... side by side. I must say, I preferred the RB1090 by a good margin. I thought that the 1090 took better control of the 802D in ALL aspects, from the bass to the diamond tweeter. The 1090 had greater stage...

                            Hello

I hope someone can answer a couple of questions regarding the RC 1090 and the RB 1090 balanced connection switch...

What does the switch do ? why does the manual say that both balanced and unbalance connections should not be used at the same time ?
