    Rotel & 7.1: mono rears?

I thought this was the case, but someone else thinks otherwise...

    Thanks!

Nope. Rotel uses some processing to arrive at 4 channels of sound for the rear. You can do it mono if you wish, the setup menu has a selection of 1 or 2 center rear speakers.

      Kevin (!) D- You may have mis-intepreted:

Surrounds plus rears for 7.1. Surrounds always have the 2 discrete channels from DD or DTS for example. But in xS mode, what ends up in the rears?

I thought it was a single channel derived from the surrounds (doesn't matter, 1 or 2 rears, for 2 it's mono).

But a person I know says it's more like the Denon receivers: in a 7.1 config in xS mode with 2 rears, that the left surround is replicated into the left rear, and the right surround is replicated into the right rear. For 1 rear channel, it's a mono channel derived from both surrounds.

According to Rotel the rears in a 7.1 system running Rotels XS processing is in quasi stereo ...ie its not mono but its not a true stereo type mode either...and a lot depends on the material...clear enough

          > quasi stereo

Thanks Andrew. I did not know that. Maybe similar to THX Ultra2 where they use decorrelation to make the 2 channels a little bit different. Put them slightly out of phase with each other or something.

            Rear and side channels..moving up!
            by mbjames
I am looking to buy either four B&W 705's or 805's for sides and rears, using mostly the lossless HD-DVD's, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc.. I currently have 804's up front and HTM2 center. My current rears and sides are ceiling mounted (these are being replaced) and I'm using Sunfire amps to drive...

            RSX 1055 center rears---Help
            by jDUB
I bought the 1055 two days ago and put on the 2.25 update software from version 2.20. Tonight I tried hooking up the center rear speakers through the redirect circuitry. Right now I am watching Satellite on PLII cinema mode and getting the fronts coming through the center rears. I have tried to read...

            settings for rear channels
            by gopies
Sorry if this sounds silly but just wondering how people set up their rears. Have B&W 704 fronts and HTM7 centre with Wharefdale Valdus 400 as rears driven by Rotel rsp1066/rmb1075. Fronts ~ 4 metres from listening position and rears ~ 1.8 metres. On the preamp I initially had the test tone @ 0dB...

            Which rear speakers to use?
            by Boone38
I have seen several posts on different ways to position and set up the rear speakers. Here is my delima. Just left the store after putting in an order on new 805s and the HTM4 (black). I already have a pair of CWM200 inwall rears that I was going to set up with the older 601s3. They are still in the...
