I am looking for some direction, advice and opinions. Below is my current home theater gear. All rotel components, Vandersteen Speakers and Toshiba display were installed in September 1998. Other components updated over time.
The RTC-970 DSP chip is failing to process Dolby Pro Logic correctly and other issues have cropped up. Still good for watching TV Cinema setting and it still passes a proper 5.1 signal from the RDA-975. I spoke with a Rotel tech who agreed with me that repairs are not an option and that he might be able to locate a brand new receiver from last year _ "There are few around." I am upgrading my system and will use all my current Rotel components for a basic system in another room.
Questions: Keeping my current Vandersteen speakers, Toshiba display and viewing is 90% DVD what are my options for going with:
A receiver?
Components? (don't think that makes sense - what do you think?)
I clearly do not need a ton of inputs or a ga-zillion watts. I am very open to going with a 1-2 year old Rotel system from Audiogon.com
At some later date 6-9months I will upgrade to a 65" flat screen with HDMI inputs and DirecTV HD.
