    Another RSP-1069 owners question?

Are you using the analog bypass for cd's via rca's . Or digital optical or digital coaxial .And which sounds best to you.Thanks.
Got way to much time on my hands.

I'm using an RSP-1068 which is very similar to the RSP-1069. Your question is completely dependent on your CD source which according to your signature is a Denon DCD 1400. I don't have any experience with that player.

I have a Pioneer DV-79AVi and find myself using the analog inputs over the digital input but if you blind folded me I don't know if I would pass a blind test. With another transport it might be a totally different story though...

I find that using the analog direct/bypass and letting the Denon do the processing that vocals are louder and there is better bass and more punch. When I use stereo mode or 2 channel pcm through a digital connection the vocals are in the back ground and not where they should be and I loose some bass and punch and over all everything seems muddled and less clear.I would of thought the dacs in the 1069 would be far superior to the Denon but evidently this is not true. The Denon is a 1980's cd player and not one of their top of the line one's.But what it is ...is very transparent.Basically I just wanted to get other owners opinions on what they use.Thanks....

First time I have quoted myself.I have spent the last 2 days doing some critical comparisons of the analog bypass for 2 channel listening and 2 channel via digital and letting the 1069 dacs do the processing.Everything I stated in my quote above is wrong. The dacs in the 1069 do a better job than letting the Denon do the processing. When using the dacs in the Denon the music is louder but that is because the analog outs on the Denon are +3db higher than the digital outs.I tested this by making a pink noise cd and played it over the Denon .I thought the Denon played more detailed over the analog but in reality it is just overly bright.Cymbals and voices are over exaggerated. When using the the digital and letting the 1069 do the processing the sound is warm and smooth and just flows like butter. The sound stage was also fuller and the music filled the room.I have played every cd I own in the last 2 days listening with both the analog and digital connections.I have been so use to listening to music that was overly bright that when I heard the smooth warm sound it just sounded wrong to me.To confirm what I was hearing I had some friends over and had them listen with me and all said the music was far superior when using a digital connection and letting the 1069 do the processing.I have pulled out some cd's that I would not listen too because I thought they where bad recordings and they came alive and sounded as I have never heard them.So I now have a whole new appreciation of the 1069. :B
This is only my opinion .

I just purchased a RCD 1072 as even though I was getting good sound letting the 1069 due the processing ,I just feel I can do better.I suspect the rcd 1072 is by far superior to the denon dcd 1400 in all aspects and will match better with my rotel/b&w equipment. Anyone using a rcd with a 1069 and if so are you using the analogs or digital outs on the rcd 1072.Should be here next week and hoping for the best.

            My connection.

Sorry this post is about 2 years L8, but I just wanted to say that I hooked my 1072 to my 1069 with a digital coaxial right from the get go. Though I have never tried analog connections and bypassing the 1069, I just assumed since the 1069 was newer tech. it would sound better doing the dac. I realize my reasoning is a text book appeal to novelty fallacy, but I have never had any complaints. It sounds great!

I use a RCd1072 connected to my RSP1069 with rca, in analog and bypass mode.

You clearly get a better sound, as the dig/ana converter in the CD set are best than those in the preamp.

                The difference is very clear.

I use SPDIF or HDMI for audio. I love all the BM/processing of the 1069. 5ch stereo is a new mode I just discovered.

I have a separate 2ch setup for my purist 2ch needs. Personally I would have suggested you get a DVD-A/SACD/CD player and use that as a transport for the 1069 than drop the cash for a 1072. Something like a Oppo 980.

                    Hi all,

A few months ago I purchased a Rotel RSP1069 pre/pro to replace my aging Rotel RSP976. The main feature I wanted was the ability to process multi-channel PCM audio via HDMI. It took several months to get it integrated into my system, get the control side of things sorted out...

4 CD Players Compared Arcam, Consonance, Denon, Consonance.
                    by cafad
Over the last 5 years I have, for various reasons, come into the possession of 4 different cd players (details below). Now I wouldn’t be a budding audiophile if the idea didn’t occur to me, eventually, to find out which one of them was the best. I googled each of them to get the technical specs,...
