questions about upgrading to a rotel amplifier...insight please

hey guys..right now i have been a little disappointed with dts ma and ddthd...uncompressed pcm seems to be the only format i enjoy with my system...the other two dont seem as spacious or lively..it was suggested that i should get an external amplifier...ive been looking at the rmb 1075 and it seems to have some very positive feedback...i mainly listen at a moderate volume dues to apartment living...what should i notice if i upgrade from receiver power to this amplifier?

gear is...polk lsi25 fronts, lsic center, lsifx surrounds, denon 3806 receiver rated at 160 watts a 6 ohms, my speakers are 4...

What is your Blu-ray player and how are you connecting it to your Denon? DTS-MA and Dolby-TrueHD in the end will be identical to uncompressed PCM. You Denon does not support decoding of these new formats though.

Your Denon only supports PCM over HDMI. If you are just using HDMI and haven't told your blu-ray player (if you can) to internally decode the new formats, you're only getting standard Dolby Digital and DTS.

If uncompressed PCM sounds fine, adding an amp won't fix the problem.

im using a ps3 over hdmi, im familiar with how all this works so i ok in that department....im more concerned of what an amp will bring to my system...also everyone says the 3 formats sound the same but i disagree, as i have blu ray with both Upcm and ddthd and i enjoy the upcm more...even after volume matching...but thats another discussion...like i said, im more after the overall effects i should notice using and external amp while listening to these formats

Anytime you're driving 4 ohm speakers, an external amp is going to be better suited for the job.

            eclimax13,

An external amp like the 1075 will improve the five speakers in every way. It will have a quieter background, dymanics will increase, detail and soundstage (depth and width) will improve. The biggest difference will likely be bass. The current a 1075 will put out will control your Polks very well. An external amp is a great way to ultimately get to seperates.

If you have a local Rotel dealer, they may have a 1075 to loan you. Demoing in your home is the best way to hear for yourself.

            Hope this helps.

You're the one claiming uncompressed PCM and DD truehd and DTS MA sound different.

You probably don't have your PS3 configured right or aren't selecting the correct soundtrack in the set-up of the BluRay.

You have 4 ohm speakers. Right? An external amp is better suited to driving them versus a receiver's amps. What more can anybody say?

I own the 1075 and coming from just a receiver weather it be Denon or whatever you will notice the difference.I sure did.I assume you will be using the pre-outs on the Denon.

eclimax, just re-read your original post and I think that as others have pointed out, you are only hearing the new "uncompressed" sound when you have your PS3 set to PCM out. Unless it has been fixed in a recent firmware update, then your PS3 can not stream DTS MA HD anyway so that is definitely the DTS core you are hearing.

Regardless, why not just borrow the 1075 and see how it sounds. Stick with the PCM bitstream though to get the best possible output from the PS3

                    Cheers

the ps3 decodes internally all formats and sends them over through linear pcm...i have my ps3 set up perfectly..i have no questions about getting the formats to work...just what an external amp will do for my current system...but i think ive got my answer
