RSP1068 - Choosing which surrounds for 5.1 music?

    Hello everybody:

Been a while since I've posted. I've got a 1068 with Emotiva ERD-1 dipole side surround speakers. They work great for movies, but for 5.1 music I would like to play through a pair of high quality direct radiating (center back)speakers. I've scoured the 1068 manual and I don't see any function that allows you to redirect 5.1 discrete surround information from the sides to the rears. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance.

Not without some relays and one of the 12v triggers. IE, you would have to make something. But certainly easy to do.

      Harold,

This is just an idea that might work : if you use the multi-ch analog connection for music, you can connect the Side Surround L/R OUTPUTS from the player to the Center Back L/R INPUTS on the 1068. I suppose that should do the trick.

For movies, use the digital connection and everything will be played through the correct speakers.

Let us know how it goes ! :T

Thanx Kevin and Fernando. Fernando, I think you gave me the solution to my dilemna. The problem will be that I won't have the digital versatility that my processor offers, morover, the bass management will not be very flexible. Oh well, I think the sacrifices won't be too great.

        Thanx again,

          Harold,
I do not believe bass management applies to the 7.1 inputs on the 1068 anyways. The only "bass management" on the 7.1 analog inputs is to have full range from all speakers sent to the subwoofer or for the subwoofer to only playback the LFE channel (this setting is called LFE Redirection). With that said Fernando's suggestion would work with absolutely no downsides.

Thanx Bryan, you're right, I will have LFE redirection capabilities just like when I play two channel via the analog bypass. The only problem with using the LFE redirect, the way I understand it, is that in my case my main speakers go down to about 50 HZ and the multi bypass runs the mains full range and crosses the sub at 100HZ, so I have that range between 50 and 100HZ that becomes a little tubby. I wish that the multi bypass offered a crossover to the mains as well as the sub. Am I not understanding the functions properly?

              Harold,

You are understanding it correctly... I too wish there was a modifiable crossover point. Your only option is to change the crossover directly on your subwoofer.

On the RSP-1066 you couldn't even turn off the LFE redirection. At least on the 1068 we can turn it OFF.

              Cheers!
              Bryan

                  Hello,

I am in need of help in choosing new surround speakers for my 5.1 HT setup. I currently have 601's as my rears however my better half does not find them very pleasing to the eye on stands behind the seating area. She is also not keen on mounting big black boxes on the walls either....

                  Hi, folks,

My 1068 is just a week-plus old and works fine but for one quirk.
I have a Gilmore Lite headphone amp connected to Video3 out.
It works fine with the CD, tuner (1080, also new), and phono, but
not with the DVD/SACD player. The "play everything"...

I've got the 1068/1095 combo and I'm building a stereo pair of Dipole subs with 8 Atlas 15's. I've just recently discovered the sound quality of the bypass mode listening to CD's. Problem is, I really would like to utilize my new Dipole Subs while using bypass mode. Would it work if I used a Y splitter...

life with rsp 1068 vs 1066 vs 1098
                  by rosros
In feb I had a chance of comparing side by side the rsp 1098 with the rsp 1066. at the time, I was thinking about upgrading from the 1066 to the 1098. the rsp 1098 was a loaner from my rotel dealer. I had the 1098 for one week. Although the 1066 is a wonderful unit, for my usage, ultimately, it was...

1068 or Yam RXV2500 as processor??

                  HI all,

What are your thoughts on the above topic? I have the opportunity to buy a 1068 near the price of a Yam 2500, and was wondering which way to go. I'll be using a RMB-1075 in this system. 5.1 is all that i can accommodate at the moment. I would consider using the 1075 to biamp front...
