Problem With Volume Knob on 1068

I've owned my 1068 processor for a couple of years now and never had any problems until recently. All of a sudden, the volume knob has a mind of its own. When I go to turn it, it will suddenly jump from 58 down to 35 or even all the way to max! It doesn't matter if I turn it up or down, I never know where it's going to end up. I've gotten into the habit of selecting another input before changing the knob because I don't want to damage my equipment or speakers because of the random volume spike. It's not an issue when I use the remote for volume control but the knob is completely unreliable.

Has this happened to anyone else?

It's come up before. It will most likely have to go in for repair, but you could call Rotel to see if they have any suggestions.

You could limit your max volume if you can. I have it set to 80 so that it is loud but should not damage anything.

I had a very similar problem with the vol knob on my RSX-1067.
In the end the vol control stopped working completely. I took it in for a warranty repair.

Apparently what happened was that dust had gotten into the internal part of the control (is it a potentiometer or something?) and they cleaned it out and all is working perfectly again.
The tech did say that it was an easy job to clean it, but getting to it was the hard part, as he had to remove a few pcb boards to get to it.
I guess if you feel confident enough you may want to give it a try.

        Cheers,
        Rob

          Illuminated Volume Knob on 1068?
          by Club1820
Does anyone know if the volume knob on the 1068 is supposed to be illuminated? I noticed that there is a blue ring around the knob and thought maybe it was supposed to light up?

          thanks.

          Rotel 1068 and Bass?
          by Rael
          Hi,

I purchased the Rotel 1068/1075 combo about a month ago. I'm really enjoying them but one area that I seem to be lacking is bass. My main speakers are a pair of Linn Ninkas and while they're not exactly bass heavy to begin with, there was definitely a deeper response with my Yamaha...

Interesting thing about the volume control on the Halo C2
          by Kingdaddy
I noticed that the more you boost any one speaker setting (Center, Rear, Sub ect.) the less total gain you have available at the master volume. If I boost the Center +2db’s then it will take 2db’s away from the total volume. At 0 level on all speakers I can run the volume up to +4db’s on a DTS...
