2 Channel: Pre, CD and AMP needed

    Hi All,

I'm looking for a new 2 Channel setup. I have perviously had the Musical Fidelity A5 Series. I found this very good, but the A5 CD Player had no sound difference to an old Harman Kardon DVD player.

    I was thinking of:

    1072 CD Player
    1082 Preamplifier
    1080 Amplifier

For a pair of B&W 803D's or Sonus Faber Cremona M.

You have chosen some nice units. They will all meld together nicely. Don't skimp on cables - see Lex on his recommendations.

I prefer my MF A5 series gear over my Rotel system. However, your tastes may differ.

That is indeed a nice setup. It reminds me of my first rig.. all Rotel with Paradigm.

I was going to suggest that as well. I've traded in my RMB-1075 for the Class D RMB-1085, and definitely have no regrets. If I was setting up a two-channel system, I'd definitley consider the RB-1072.

This is really an entry level system yeah? I mean the Rotel 1072 and 1082 pre cannot compare to a Mcintosh or Classe or Musical Fidelity?

Really? Brand and price is not all. Look at your first post. "but the A5 CD Player had no sound difference to an old Harman Kardon DVD player."
Mc and Classe are the top of the food chain for some folks, but they do cost
a lot more $$. Rotel is hard to beat for the price.

Listen to the setups you have in mind if you can, and trust your ears.

if you cant find any difference between an A5 cd player and an old HK DVD player, Id be asking what pre, pwr and speakers you did the comparisons with because I think thered have to be somethign there either not revealing enough or strangling the 2ch goodness from coming through.

I would agree too, I'm actually very familiar wiht the 1072 and though it is a very good budget player I know it can be easily bettered with even adding a dac eg the benchmark or mf xdac etc or by better players a5cd included. In regards the 1080 am very familiar with that too and been part of a comparison done on a friends system where we hooked up the a5cr power amp instead and clearly ther differences were there even with sound charecter with cleaner uncongested topend and taugheter tighter bottom end and that was with a 703 floorstander. with the 800 series and theres absolutely nothing wrong with running the rotel gear if you so wish but do think can do better with gruntier amps and better source and pre.

absolutely, the rotel 1072 is a lovely player for the money as is the 1080 thats fantastic value as you say. and good point too the the OP is comparing to equipment 3 - 4 times in price. There is always better out there no matter what price point you look at. But ultimately no matter what anyone thinks or says, totally down to the OP to make that value judgement on what to buy and whether they feel the upgrade or purchase justifies the expense. And there are a lot of people out there buying this rotel gear and totally happy wiht it.

I too would recommend to listen as much as can to the setups in mind and trust your ears to buy whatever it is you feel is right

                    Hi Everyone,

I've been eyeing off the RC-1082 Preamplifier and just wondering if a new RCD-1082 CD Player and RB-1082 Stereo Amplifier is due out soon?

                    Hi,

This is my first posting. I would like some advice on the choice of speakers. There is only 1 high end audio dealer where I live and they don't have the speakers I want. I might not be able to test the speakers as I will be ordering them from overseas. I am currently using ProAc Tablette...

                    Hi,
I just wanted to give a few comments on the RC-1082 that I obtained recently. I moved my RC-1070 to my bedroom system and replaced it with an RC-1082 in the main system.

                    1. Overall the difference is very noticeable, more so than I thought. I had figured that the weakest link...

Attached are pictures of the spec sheet for the new RC-1082 stereo pre-amp. Unfortunately they were not able to add a HT bypass to the unit.

If you are upset they didn't add HT bypass, please call Rotel directly and tell them. Please don't clutter the forum posting how you're not going...
