I've seen lots of different statements on this matter, but.............I just bought the bd30. I'm uncertain what is the best way to connect it for audio. Please help!

    hello psufan,

i have the same combo. coaxial out not the 6 channel. the panny dosen't have the new surround sound decoder built in. but the blu-ray standard 5.1 sound & rotel is awesome.

the new panny bd50 has the new sound built in. release date is july 30-ish.

I just purchased the BD30 and I have seen the information on the 50. Maybe I should hold off and wait for the bd50. At that time would I connect through the 5.1 setup?

yup.....My only concern is that from the spec on the 1068 it does not have HDMI. If not, im wondering if the 1068 will convert DTSMA, TrueHD thru component or does the 1068 have a passthru?

Rotel 1068 cannot process any audio signals from HDMI. You will need to connect the BD player to the Rotel using the 5.1 analog outs to hear the new codecs. (This is assuming the BD player can decode and output them in analog.)

I believe even the bd50 does not output HD audio codecs through it's 5.1 analog connections.

Where did you hear that? I haven't seen anything solid on that player one way or another.

This is not true. This player will do all the hi def codecs on analog. Only issue I have heard is if DTS Master will be on board or if it will require a firmware upgrade like to upcoming Pioneer Elite.

What is the price of the BD50? Another option for PSUfan to consider is to sell the 1068, buy the 1069, and buy the PS3.

It says " *5 HDMI connection required" for all the HD codecs.

Well, I hope you are correct. I will definitely consider this player if it does output HD audio via interconnects. :B

One of the big points of the Panny is fast loading of Blu-ray discs.

Unfortunately that is not very clear. I says that the HDMI connection is required for "Decode and Bitstream output". Of course you would need the HDMI for the bitstream out. If it didn't decode and output through the analog outputs then why have them on the player? I'll wait until I see the manual before I believe it won't output any HD audio codec through the 5.1 analog outputs.

Yes, they maybe referring to the bitstream output.

I really hope Shadow 8's info is accurate. I have no intention of getting an hdmi capable pre-pro.

And the BD30 is the only player for which there is a region free DVD and Blueray hack published.

I have been reading many different threads on blu-ray players and audio connections. I consider myself an avid fan of HT, with slightly better than novice understanding of the numerous options for connections, trouble shooting, etc. However, this audio connection is somewhat confusing.

                              Oppo DV-980H or Panasonic DMP-BD30 for SD-DVD’s?

Although I am interested in acquiring a Blu-Ray player at some point now that the Hi-Def video format war is over, I don’t have a single BD-DVD at the moment… and I do have several hundred standard def DVD’s. Therefore, I want a machine that will up-convert my SD-DVD’s to HD with the highest...

                              Thanks all,

I brought the Panny 30 last night and watched "THE BRAVE ONE." Great picture & the the sound was great. The Rotel displayed "DOLBY DIGITAL."
I'll try a DTS blu-ray disc tonight "LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD." Hopefully the Rotel will display...

I've been reading up on the Panny and it has everything I need and a few things that I would like to have. I would love to have HDMI so I could use my Elite upscaling DVD. I could also use DVI through a switcher from my HDTV box but of course that's an extra expense. I have been told the pic on the...

Okay, I'm certain that most of you look at the AVS forum as well for information. Have any of you been following the "official panny 35/55 thread" by chance? I thought that buying a blu ray player would simplify the hook up process etc, wow I was mistaken. I have a Rotel 1068/1075/1085 setup...
