    RSP-1069 audio/video problems

    Ok, here are my problems.

    1. I can't seem to get digital audio out from the 1069.

All of my analog signals go through just fine. (tuner, cd player. etc...)

I have a cable box and PS3 both hooked up to the 1069 through HDMI cables (cables are 1.3a certified.) I have the 1069 hooked up to a Samsung LN52A650 LCD TV.

I can't get audio out from the 1069 to either the TV or to my speakers. (I have a 2.0 setup.)

I have set up the PS3 to send LPCM 2.0 out the HDMI and I have hooked it and the cable box up directly to the TV without issues. Works perfectly that way. But not matter what setting I have on the 1069 I can't get audio out of it. No audio to the speakers and no audio pass through to the TV.

    2. My TV looks ok if I feed it 1080P from the 1069 from a high def source, but when I try and watch a normal resolution program upscaled by the 1069, it flickers really really bad. Selecting the scaler bypass makes high def look all green and the low res still flickers. Again, plugging right into the TV everything works great.

Do I have a bum unit or am I missing something basic?

I guess I should add one other piece of information. When I called my dealer he said that he thought that the HDCP was the problem and the only way to get audio from the PS3 to the 1069 was use the digital optical link and same thing with the cable box. From searches I have done it seems that the 1069 is HDCP complient, am I wrong on this?

Go to the 1069 settings. Check if the "source" is correct for your HDMI settings, remember, audio and video inputs are separate. You probably have them set to different inputs (Video is HDMI x and audio is set to another source). If the scaler is giving you problems try the scaler (HDMI) bypass setting.

I do have the settings at HDMI for the video and HDMI audio. It still doesn't work. It seems like it shouldn't be to hard. Set video to input HDMI 1, audio set to HDMI and in the video screen set the audio to TV so it says it will pass through audio.

For the video I have tried the pass through but it seems to have issues either way. I am going to have the place where I bought it send out a guy and take a look at it. Right now I can't use the scaler at all and I can't get audio out of it unless I hook up an analog system.

I really hope I have a bum unit because otherwise I seem to have bought a 2K paper weight.

Does anyone get audio out of the PS3 with only a HDMI cable hooked up?

There is nothing stated in the owners manual but I'd bet you cannot get a signal from a digital output from an HDMI input. There are a couple of products out there that have digital to analog conversion for second zone (the Rotel is analog only) but you can't use HDMI. It has to be a coax or optical input to get audio in the second (or third) zones. It appears to be an HDMI issue, not a Rotel issue.

The video issue sounds like something is not right in the RSP-1069. I'd try a reset of the RSP-1069 (make sure you write down all of your settings before you do) to see if that clears it up. If not, call tech support (at 800.370.3740) and see if they have any ideas.

Make sure under the video/HDMI settings you have the HDMI set to "AMP mode".this is what works for me and I found if I use the other option ("TV" i think) gave me handshake issues.

          toggle between the two.

True, if set to the TV mode it *should* pass the audio through to the TV, but the 1069 will not decode the audio at that point.

Ok, got it figured out. It needed a firmware update. My dealer called the factory and I guess it needed "2" updates. (I don't know if it was 2 revisions behind or if there are 2 different places the firmware goes.). They came out and upgraded my system and made sure it all worked perfect before they left.

I now have my cable box and PS3 hooked up through HDMI only and only a HDMI to the TV and its all working great. The update fixed all of my problems. I get sound through my HDMI and not a single picture issue. (I use the passthrough mode for the HDMI which is how the dealer left it so I left it there also.)

I have used amp mode and TV mode and they both work as they should. I didn't try the scaler but it works great without so I didn't try. I can now send the audio to the TV from the PS3 by bitstream or PCM and they both work great. (yes I know that bitstream won't always be decoded, but I gave it a shot to see if the 1069 would recognize it and it did.)

Thank you to all that helped me but I am off going to watch a high def movie through my Rotel equipment.

The 1069 has the video bypass installed yet continues to cause problems when the Motorola HD DVR is routed through it.

The problem I have is with the 4:3 override setting on the PVR.

When the box is powered up or the display turned on or the 1069 turned on or any of these...
