DSP-1098 upgraded x1098v223 last weekend - audio synch poor

I upgraded my dsp-1098 last weekend with x1098v223_20070820_edf_ub_4474 after upgrading the ROM updates 1-4.

Since I completed this the audio comes and goes, gaps between the drop outs and sound returning varies.

I have tried using fibre optic digital audio, and coaxial feeds.
Both connections are showing the same issue - I thought it was a broken coaxial cable but the problem is occuring with the fibre optic cable.

At one point the sound was such that I thought the processor had crashed.

Has anyone had this problem ?

I have loaded upgrades before without problems.

I am wondering if ought to re-do the upgrades.....

What version did you start with? Also, did you do a factory default after installing the updates?

      Hi Kevin
      I started with 2.1.3.

I did not perform a factory reset - maybe I will...

I did have a problem loading the eprom updates where file1 was very quick, I retryed it 3-4 times all were fast
Files 2 & 3 took longer, file 4 was the longest download time.

I am going to redo the upgrade today, just to be on the safe side.

      Here's hoping....

If you started with 2.xx, you only needed to load file4, but you should be fine in any case. I would definitely recommend a factory default, it has helped me before with strange issues.

Does you computer have an actual RS232 port, or are using an adapter? You might need to get a different adapter is you're using one.

        Good luck,

        Kevin D.

I reloaded all 4 eprom updates, I did have to attempt to load each file more than once, continual load failures.
I believe this was the problem - patience solved the problem.

I re-loaded the x1098v223_20070820_edf_ub_4474 just to be sure.

All seems to be OK now.

Keep an eye on the eprom loads and pay attention to the messages.....

I wouldn't think the sound quality would change, since the software upgrade does not change the op amps in the 1098.

It may improve the surround decoding, which may improve the quality of the surround sound field due to better decoding.
              I hope this helps....

A final point on this thread...
I have finally worked out what the problem with my digita decoding dropping out...
It would appear that the relays in the digital source selections of the sources I use most have become worn and resulting in bad connections an AMAZING coincidence since the issue started the week AFTER I upgraded the firmware.
I have moved all my digital sources to different input connections and I have not had the problem since.

Maybe my 1098 will need a service when the connections I am currently using finally go to meet their maker.

Has anyone else had issues with the relays?

Do you mean the 1098 has still real relays not chip relays? How can something like that wear out?

                  Hi Mig !

If you want your 1098 sound better you will have to modd it.

check here, I've put few comments and pictures of my modds.

Finally i have had the time for do and test the op-amps mod. I have replaced 3 of 4 ( for me a 5.1 configuration is sufficient ) of the cheap and sonically modest TL072C of the multichannels input ( normally used for listen SACD and DVD-Audio ) and one of two ( always for the 5.1 conf. that i do use ) of the JRC5532s of the

                    Hello,
I see a lot of receivers/pres have an av synch. I don't have one on my Denon 3801 but am upgrading this week to something else...
I am curious if this is really an important feature. I have lived a long time without it and one of the units I am looking at (Sherbourn Pre...

                    Fibre Cement for inwall enclosures?
                    by jquin
                    Hi All
I was thinking about building my Modula MT inwall boxes.

Has anyone compared MDF with fibre cement sheets for building the boxes?

As the in wall boxes will be thin box vibration will be a big issue I guess.

Has anyone had any experience with...
