    Aaaack I screwed up!!

I connected my new rb985 and I didn't notice that the negative speaker wire freyed and was making a cross connection with the positive post. I attempted to play a track. The speaker poped and crackeled and now thats all I get now from that channel.

So how bad is it. My friend said he did this with his Hafler se240 and it was just a simple fuse.

    Any information would be appriated.

    Could be a fuse...

Did you turn off the amp (unplug it) for a couple minutes and then try it again?! I'd pull all the power from the equipment and see what happens.

If it's a fuse you should be able to open the amp up and replace it.

      Thank you for the help.

I did try to unplug it for a period of time, but it still only produced some poping noices.

I'll open it up and hope its the fuse.

Any chance something more serious happened?

Could have blown the channel. But usually its unlikely because most systems have protection built in.

If it is anything remotely like my 13 yo 980, just pull the cover, look for the old style glass Buss fuses, take the blown fuse with you and go down to your local RatShack, get new ones, put them in, and your back in business!

These old 9 series amps are like Sherman tanks.

Mine have survived multiple shorts and a few lightning induced voltage spikes with no ill effects.

                Thanks for the help guys,,
I tested the fuses, and luckly it is them, however, my local radio shack does not carry the ceramic 125v 6 amp fuse.
Ill keep looking and find one sooner or later,
                Thanks again guys.

                  RB-991 keeps blowing main fuse
                  by kingwilliam
                  Hi all...

The problem: My RB-991 blew its main 12-amp fuse the other day (the fuse you can easily change from the back). I tried 10-amp fuses, but blew three in a row. No other components or speakers were hooked up to the amp. I unplugged the amp from the wall before swapping fuses....

                  Rotel RA-02: Blown fuse
                  by sam500
I stupidly blew a fuse in my RA-02 amp. I've taken off the cover, located the fuse in question and just wanted to make sure that the new fuse I have bought has the right spec.

                  The RA-02 takes a T4A 250v fuse. I've just picked up a '4A 250v' fuse. How important is the T ?! Will the 4A...

                  Anyone solved 1080 Fuse issue?
                  by Mitchell
Has anyone found a long term solution to the 1080 fuse issue?
Some of the blown fuse posts seem to have started in early 2004. Has anyone who has blown a fuse managed to go at least 6-8 months without blowing them again and if so did they leave it on all the time, not use trigger or some combination?...

                  RA-01 Blown Fuse
                  by ryewoods
I blew a fuse in my Rotel RA-01 the other day. Being that I got the amp as a graduation present and of course the person who gave it to me no longer has the receipt, I decided to try and fix it myself. Today I opened it up and found the bad fuse. On it, it reads "T4L 250V." Does that mean...

                  RB-1095 fuse change
                  by tomasito
                  Hello,
Has anyone changed the fuse in a RB-1095.
I don't get audio coming out of the rear channe, I think one of the fuses is blown. I opened the 1095 and the fuses are buried way in the PCB.

I experienced this with the 1080, It was a blown fuse. The fuses in the RB-1080...
