Rdv 1080 Vs Rcd 1072

I have a 1066 processor and I am looking to upgrade my mazantz cd player. I was at my dealer today and they have a trade in RDV 1080 for $350. I was thinking of getting the 1072 but it is a little more than I wanted to spend. The sales man told me that the 1080 was almost as good a the 1072 and that I could also replace my older marantz dvd player with one piece.

Anyone with experence with the 1080?

Brian - buy the 1072 it is an excellent machine.

If you search this forum, I get the impression that the the RDV 1080 was never a particularly good / reliable unit (I have never owned one). I sense that such players were never Rotel's forte.

If you live in the US, you can buy a 1072 on Audiogon for roughly $350.

In this price range, I have an Oppo 961 for (legacy format) DVD and CD together, but it requires an HDMI connection to the TV. The picture and sound quality of this machine is very good indeed. However, I believe that your 1066 does not have HDMI - you may be able get around this; there are several posts on this forum about signal paths and set up which I'm not qualified to go into.
