Decided to return the RDV-1060 for a RCD 1072

    Gents,

I originally bought the RDV-1060 aiming to use it for both CD's and DVD's. Unfortunately the unit I received had some issues so I almost immediately had to give it back to the shop for repair.

After my RDV-1060 came back from repair (gone for a month after handling it for only 2 days) I had the chance to use it over the weekend with my RSX-1056 and RB-1080. A bit disappointing I am sorry to say . There were still some serious issues with the unit.

Some had to do with this particular RDV-1060 (and I am sure they are not inherent to the player) but one issue, the noise from the drive unit seems to be a more persistent issue. It varied from CD to CD and from track to track but overall it was more than I would be able to block out when listening to CD (which is 80% of my time spent with the set). I understand the unit is first of all a DVD player and I would dare to state these generally produce more noise from the drive than a dedicated CD player, but I thougth about if over the weekend and ended up deciding that chances were high that even after another repair this 'feature' would keep bothering me.

Went back to the store and asked to swap the unit for a RCD-1072. Luckily the shop has excellent service and they agreed to take back the RDV-1060. From the left over change I got an Oppo 971H-E DVD player.
When the new Rotel DVD player is released I am sure I will have a closer look at that.

I am looking forward to receiving the RCD-1072 and I expect it to provide as much musical pleasure as the RSX-1056 and RB-1080 have given me.

    Cheers,

    Lennart

Despite it's price, the Oppo is geting some pretty good reviews. Let us know how much better the 1072 is from the 1060 for CD's. That topic seems to come up a lot.

For playing CD's or CDR's discs the sound is better on the RCD-1072 over the RDV-1060. The CD sound of the 1060 is good for a DVD player, but no match to the 1072.

D/A converters in the RCD-1072 vs D/A converters in receivers or Pre/pros

I have a love for 2 channel music. However, I also enjoy listening to dvd concerts with my Sony STA-DA777ES receiver. When listening to a concert or a music vidio (which may be included on that dvd) in two channel mode, there is a distinctive superiority of the d/a converters in my rcd-1072. My...

        RDV1060 vs RCD 1072
        by Kemp
        Hi all,

Could anyone tell me the difference, if any, when playing a CD on the RDV1060 compared to the RCD1072. I was enquiring about the RCD1072 and the salesman advised me to rather go with the RDV 1060.

        Any comments will be appreciated.

Found some info on the new cd player.

Its from a german site called http://www.gute-anlage.de (translates into www.good-system.de), which is a site from the german distributor I think. They have the RCD1072 listed at 899 euro with the following text:

        RCD-1072 vs RACD-02

        G'day,

I was in a hi-fi store the other day, and mentioned that I had the Rotel RCD-1072 CD player. The sales dude then mentioned that I "did not have Rotel's top of the range cd player", and proudly pointed to a RCD-02 CD player in the corner.

        I scoffed at this,...
