    RSP-1069 value for $$$

As a long term Rotel user, I have been considering upgrading my pre/pro.

The reasons? My old pre/pro IS a 1066. LOL

Really it is for better and more video switching with component. The old 1066 got the component video upgrade board (never worked with anything!!!) so I had the component bandwidth, BUT it will only work on the first (component) input, not the second. (as in NO switching)

So, I bitched to Equity and they made a deal with my dealer. $1700 for the 1069.

For $1700 what do I get? HDMI, which I have no need for at this point (future proofing?) and one additional component input.

    For sources, I have:

    Bell 9242 (hdmi/component)
    Dish 211 (hdmi/component)
    Panasonic DVD recorder (hdmi/component)
    Shaw HD PVR (hdmi/component)

For output it is a Panasonic projector with component, s-video & composite. Will not be replaced anytime soon (min 3 years).

So what I really need is a four component input box that auto switches, something that the 1069 does not do...

The alternatives are to buy a receiver with four components at less than 1/3 of the cost of the 1069 and plug it into the Rotel amps.

    Thoughts? Comments?

You could always wait for the RSP-1099, but obvously it would cost more. I use to own a RSP-1066 and purchased a secondhand RSP-1068 as a stop gap measure until I really need HDMI switching and HD surround decoding (I'm currently connecting direct via HDMI to my TV and projector. The RSP-1068 has more flexable base managment features and an extra component input (3 only though). The RSP-1068 might still be a cheaper option until they get the RSP-1069 right.

If you are not going to use the HDMI output of the 1069, I can not recommend it at this time. There's issues with the scalar on component out that makes it difficult to use.

I agree to work out a deal on a 1068 if possible, or work the trade for the 1069 then sell it to buy what you want.

RSP-1068. You can get a great deal on one lately via audiogon.com.

Problem with High End HDMI Cables
              by urlawyer
Just read an article in a high end rag which talks about a problem with expensive HDMI cables. Seems that very expensive HDMI cables are very stiff and heavy, so they can damage the HDMI component chassis connectors. The cable industry is aware of the problem and they are working on a solution but...

              Hi all,

A few months ago I purchased a Rotel RSP1069 pre/pro to replace my aging Rotel RSP976. The main feature I wanted was the ability to process multi-channel PCM audio via HDMI. It took several months to get it integrated into my system, get the control side of things sorted out...

              by WI Rotel
Well it took me all day since my entire system is "in wall" making connections and running cables is worse than waterboarding :M (but it looks darn good). But I completed the swap, now my new blueray player and plasma are through and through 1080p HDMI connected. Compared to upconverting...

Rotel RSP-1069 VS McIntosh MX119 Processors
              by scanido
              Hey All,

Need advice from the trusty board. Currently I have a Rotel RSX-1057 and am using as my Processor powering my MAC MC205. With a budget of $3000 I can get either the RSP-1069 or a used MX119.

I will be connecting the processor to my PS3 via HDMI for the RSP1069...
