    New Software Update For RSP-1098

    Greetings all,

There is a new software update dated 10/16/07 for RSP-1098 owners. See link: http://69.84.158.125/NA/Support/Tech...date.htm?Id=99

By the way, Rotel has updated their web site. Actually, it's new.

    Happy Listening,

    Al

Looks like minor fixes according to the PDF, but they don't actually have the latest versions posted:

        V2.1.8 to V2.1.9
        - Corrected an error that would allow zone 2 to be turned on in an incorrect state by
selecting an input when the main zone is in standby.
        V2.1.9 to V2.2.1
        - Fixed a bug that caused audio dropouts from digital sources when controlling
        volume via RS232.
        V2.2.1 to V2.2.2
        - Improved memory backup software

        V3.1.5 to V3.1.6
        - Corrected an error that would allow zone 2 to be turned on in an incorrect state by
selecting an input when the main zone is in standby.
        V3.1.6 to V3.1.8
        - Fixed a bug that caused audio dropouts from digital sources when controlling
        volume via RS232.
        V3.1.8 to V3.1.9
        - Improved memory backup software

        V4.1.5 to V4.1.6
        - Corrected an error that would allow zone 2 to be turned on in an incorrect state by
selecting an input when the main zone is in standby.
        V4.1.6 to V4.1.8
        - Fixed a bug that caused audio dropouts from digital sources when controlling
        volume via RS232.
        V4.1.8 to V4.1.9
        - Improved memory backup software
Website only has 2.1.8 and 3.1.5.. Let me see what I can do on that.

Remember, version 2, 3, & 4 are all different because of chip/TFT changes and are not an improvement. So if you have 1.xx or 2.xx use the latest 2.xx version. 3.xx use latest 3.xx only, 4.xx use latest 4.xx only.

I forgot - how can you tell what version you have? I thought it was some sort of key combination on the remote. ?

Hold down he mute button on the remote for 2 to 3 seconds and the firmware version will come up on the front display of the Rotel AV pre-amp.

I have 2.2 installed, which I downloaded from a link somewhere on these forums, but if you can find a link to 2.2.2 (or newer) I'd really appreciate it :T

Use a USB -> RS232 converter, such as from Keyspan etc. No personal experience, but I've heard they do work.

Maybe it is just me but I'm not going to upgrade because everything works just peachy on my unit... I don't want to take the chance of screwing that up....

I've upgraded twice and never had a problem with the upgrading process, nor with the unit once upgraded...

As long as you read the directions and follow them exactly, everything works fine.

Just as a precaution though I put my 1098 on my APC Smart UPS just incase something would happen to the power...which with my luck would probably happen. lol. But other than that... I don't do anything special.

I know people have conflicting views, but I try to run all my 'toys' with the latest firmware installed. I figure its a continual process of improvements and bug fixes, and you're usually just not doing the device or the programmers justice by sticking with an old(er) software. And if you do find a problem, they will appreciate your feedback, and in most cases address it in another update.

On the other hand, as the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But my view is if it was broke enough for someone to bother releasing a fix, I'll bother to install it.

Kevin, the european website still only lists the 2.1.8 version. Any chance of having a chat with the powers in charge and arranging an update.

If so, what is the procedure for doing so? I'm very interested in an RSP-1098 processor, but use Mac computers exclusively. I've been told by two different Rotel customer service...
