    Canadian dollar on par

Just wondering how you fellow Canadians are finding the prices of Rotel these days with the dollar being on par. Have you seen the prices come down?
I know in my line of work (steel) we have had to adjust our prices to keep in line.

Went in to a dealer this past saturday (Sept. 29th) to ask about a primaluna preamp and rotel rb-1080.

For the primaluna he wanted $1,700 cdn (US retail is about $1,600)...not such a bad deal when you factor it what it would cost you to get it yourself. I then asked for pricing on a RB-1080 and he quoted me $1,500 cdn (I believe the US msrp is $1,000?)

If the Rotel pricing doesn't adjust in the next month or so I'm most likely going to pick one up from the US or buy a different amp entirely (maybe a cambridge audio 840W).

nothing in Canada has adjusted to the value of our dollar yet. Not sure how long our dollar needs to maintain its strength in order for manufactures to adjust pricing. Maybe never.

Is your Value Added Tax (VAT) included in the 1499 euro price? How much is your VAT? I know in Greece it's staggering at around 19%. Here in North American the price you tend to see are the pre-tax prices.

The true cost of the RB-1080 in my particular part of Canada is $1,500 + $209.25 (13.95%) in taxes = $1,709.25 (final price). There's still a huge price difference but I just wanted to point out the difference in sales tax philosophy.

The 1499 Euros is indeed including sales tax, in the Netherlands it is 19%...

I'll not complain about 7% again.

I think it may have some kind of impact on pricing, but I think our prices will always be higher than the US due to other reasons (the size of the market, possibly things like distribution costs).

I don't mind paying more for the shipping/distributor costs if I can get a product serviced in Canada that will generally mean turnaround time will be quicker. Shipping costs are fine too because you'll end up paying for them anyways if you end up buying a product from the states or driving down yourself to pick it up (gas expense)

If amplifier XYZ costs $2,000 in the US and the same product costs $2,100 in Canada at a par currency I don't mind paying the extra hundred dollars because driving down would probably cost me that much in gas anyways (I own a light truck)

I can understand how extra shipping costs would increase prices for things such as electronic products but if we take cars for example where the buyer typically pays freight & pdi, the price difference is still substantial. For example, I got a buddy working at a BMW dealership in Calgary and he's telling me that a lot of potential customers are going south of the border to purchase their 7-series bimmers. The cost savings after it's all said and done, I've been told, amounts to around $20,000 per car (how does a canuck dealer compete?)

                    Hi

I have heard that this is the best forum to talk Rotel.

I am thinking of buying an used Rotel RB991 to add to my HT setup. I will use the pre-out of my Denon AVR 3805 to connect to the power amp to drive my Dynaudio Audience 82 speakers.

                    I have heard comments...

I recently bought an RB1080. My speakers are 2.5 ohms, and I have to put a 200W non-inductive resistor in series with one side of the speaker cable to bring it up to 6.5 ohms, which the RB1080 handles just fine (It did NOT like 2 ohms and now I see in the specs the RB1080 works only down to 4 ohm, not...

Recently purchased an RB1080 for my front speakers. Using an RSX1055 for the center and rear channels. Initially, the RB1080 caused a loud hum through my speakers. The dealer suggested using a 3 to 2 prong adapter with the AC cord. This eliminated the hum totally. Upgrading to the RB1080 was well...
