Anybody heard any rumours of an upgrade to the RSP-1098? I know this unit is hardware upgradable (like a PC) - it would be great to have a "pci" card that added HDMI 1.3 and firmware to decode the new HD sound formats.

There must be a "1099" supposed to be released around the end of the past year, but Rotel is waiting for the standard (HDMI1.3a, DTS HD,...) to be final and "stable" before putting a new high-end pre-amp on the market.
The 1098 won't be upgradable with new cards if we belive the latest news.
I've upgraded my 1098 by myself, and it now sound much much better, and I'll buy an external scaler and switch for video sources.
I actually don't care about HD and new sound format, so I won't change my beloved 1098 before long long time.

I have just ordered a 1098, and can't wait to get it. I really don't care about all fancy features (such as Denon, Yamaha etc), but like to great sound. But I would like to see HDMI, men like you say - a scaler can handle it.- Bottom

I inquired if this set up would allow the 1098 to be hardware upgradable; much like a computer by swapping out boards. More specifically I asked if the 1098 would allow for the new 5 series...-

by StevebezHave not seen a 1098 "in the flesh", but curious about the hardware upgradability given the nature of the build - i.e. most of the input / output cards are vertically mounted.
Was wondering if the manner they are connected to the main board is of the type of a PC board. I.e....-

by ropotamoI have made flash update and then upgrade from 1.1.6 to 2.1.1 On 1098 I can see software version 2.1.1 and everything seems to work well unless you put volume on. Then there is no sound comming from front speakers hooked on RB 1080. But center and surround hooked on RMB 1095 work well. I was checking...-

by DrBoomWell, it's been almost 2 months now that I've lived with both my Rotel RSP1098 and my Parasound C2 and the time for deciding which I'm going to keep is almost at hand.(not that I HAVE to decide now for some reason, but I'd hate to end up with 2 processors permanently)
I actually own both of them,...-

by sirbogeySetup since yesterday: RSP-1098, RMB-1075, and RDV-1060 with catcables (just received, they are awesome); 2 fronts, 2 rears, 1 center, 1 sub (all speakers are Piega). I installed the most recent upgrade on the 1098 as well and then set to default settings.
Cables are definitely connected...-
